A 16-year-old runner who texted his mother that he was being chased by a bear as he competed in a popular race over mountainous terrain was killed Sunday just south of Anchorage.

Being chased was obviously unfair and it was his parents fault or something. Him being eaten is going to leave the boy with issues. There has to be a lawsuit or something. Alaska not keeping its animals under control. No available bear shelters.

It's actually a sad story...kid was probably frightened to death and turned to his Mom for help.

If there were, like, bear feeding stations or something, people wouldn't get eaten as much! I think, like, the government or the police or someone has to do somthing with all this nature! How are we supposed to enjoy it and everything if there's, like bears or lions or whatever, outside?

They should at least have animal free zones to keep these creatures away from us! And like, enforce the rules! If a bear or something is caught in a free zone, they should be given a time out or be given extra bear work as a reminder to behave!

Just because they are bears or whatever doesn't give them more rights than me!

But he could have been frightened to death by a bear running loose in nature! The responsibility for that rests squarely on the shoulders of the government. So, in a way, the government ate the boy!

I blame the organizers of this race. Idiots should have been aware of this possible danger/outcome.

I wanna be buried with my IPhone just in case I'm accidentally buried alive. Then I'd text for help and watch porn while I'm waiting to be rescued.

They are to blame for organizing a run outside, where there are wild animals. If the runners had a large, indoor compound to run in, this wouldn't have happened.

If they had to run outside, there should have been an armed runner who accompanies every contestant.

I think it was criminally irresponsible for any organization to expect people to run outside where bears or lions can catch and eat you!

It's about time to build a roof and walls around Alaska!
