It's the last day of June, and June 1980 was the time many people came to the conclusion that Republican challenger Ronald Reagan was going to defeat incumbent President Jimmy Carter. This is important for conservatives/Republicans who have this belief that President Obama is the reincarnation of Carter and will be thrown out of office in a 1980-style election.

Instead, Nate Silver gives Obama a 67.8% chance of winning the Electoral College and a 66% chance of winning the popular vote right about now.

Not really a big surprise. Mitt Romney has had over almost a year of free publicity from the US media. While I will admit that not all of it has been positive publicity; his popularity has to be set against the fact that Obama has only just now begun to campaign. I would be very surprised if the voting gap between Obama and Romney does not continue to widen as November appraoches.

Everybody has noticed how Romney is campaigning against health care reform even though "Obamacare" is almost exactly the same thing Romney pushed for when he was Massachusetts governor.

Flip flop!
