Warships do often get damaged in war.
You Americans might not want to send in your ships because you're scared they might be sunk and some people might get hurt... but not the British.
We actually allow our warships and sailors to do the job they are supposed to do regardless of the dangers.
Send the geriatric Montrose and Kent back to Portsmouth before somebody gets hurt. They don't even have symbolic value, they're so old and baffed out.

The Montrose is a fine ship.
Was ... was ... in 1997 ...

It was still under armed with a proper CIWS. The Brits cheaped right out. Notice that the new RN ships are all getting two of them because they know that your ass is grass in a modern naval battle without them.

I guess that the Type 23 was too far along in the design process after the Falklands War for the designers to incorporate into them what the RN had just learned the hard way.

She still is.

What ships is Canada sending, by the way?

My answer is zero: you haven't the capabilities to do so.

And even if you had, you wouldn't - because you'd be scared of your warships getting sunk or damaged, thus defeating the object of warships.

Unlike you, we'll send them in and put up a fight. Because we're British. And we'll win.

It's not a case of being a poodle.

Britain has shipping to protect in that area. So what does she do? Send out Royal Navy ships to patrol it.

Canada doesn't send ships to that area to protect Canadian shipping for this simple reason: you can't. You don't have a global navy.

If Canadian shipping gets threatened in that area it'll either just have to cope with it or rely on the Americans, British or French.

The Royal Canadian Navy can't do it.

Royal Navy ships are currently patrolling the South China Sea and the Strait of Hormuz, ready to take on the Chinese and Iranians. It's a global navy.

The Canadian Navy can barely get past Canadian waters.

HMCS Regina is just returning back to Esquimalt now after a six month deployment in the Western Pacific, including in the South China Sea. HMCS Toronto just returned a week ago after a six months deployment to Eastern Europe. HMCS Halifax just left a couple of weeks ago to replace her for six more months in Northern Europe. MV Asterisk has been sailing with Regina, as part of the blockade of North Korea and she is now sailing from Brisbane to Halifax, due there in a week. She has been at sea 229 days over the last year.
