Can't believe that idiot raunch-hands is still not banned. Trying to turn every subject into a flame-war is bad for the forums in general. Trust an idiotic "patriot" to make everything about 9-11. I just decided to return from my self-imposed vacation to invite Raunch to just F-off, this thread could have been a kind of interesting discussion without right-wing bullies hijacking it. Oh wait, since he hijacked the thread, I believe his solution to piracy is a shot in the head, perhaps some e-sniper can shoot his account dead and end the crisis :D

All you can do is call people names. Tell me you're not the cowboy from the Village People. Why would you choose such an avatar??

No...the national "crutch" award belongs to the useless masses south of the 49th. The ones whose combined mental powers couldn't compete with a kindergarten class. Idiots who think they can make their own rules outside of their own country without consequence. Morons who think that the rest of the world should bow down to them because they have the biggest stick. Bullies beyond compare. Babies who blame anything else or everyone else for troubles that they brought upon their own heads.

and just because you managed to find 2 american wannabe's to agree with you means squat.

If the united sl*ts of america wants to continue to flout international law, and/or take the law into their own hands, then they deserve all the 9/11's that they get.

Your post should be required reading for every American. There are still a lot of us who have no idea what wretched people you are.

If every American read what you post, they would undoubtedly conclude that you are a troll and should probably be treated in the same manner as pirates.

Canada. What Hillary is saying is she wants to see Canada change it's maritime laws.

"As NATO is an alliance, not a nation, there's no such thing as NATO law. When NATO ships detain pirate suspects, the law that applies is the national law of the NATO ship involved. It seems that in the case of Canada, that precludes bringing the pirates to justice unless a Canadian ship is attacked."

O.K. So what's the issue? Have the Americans brought anyone to justice in this
whole Pirate fiasco that wasn't attacking an American ship under an American
Flag?

UN sea court ready to judge piracy cases: report

Agence France-Presse April 22, 2009 3:02 PM
Source: UN sea court ready to judge piracy cases: report

BERLIN — A UN maritime court is ready to judge the growing cases of piracy off Somalia's coast,
its president said in an interview to be published Thursday.

"The (International) Tribunal for the Law of the Sea is ready to judge each piracy case that states
want it to deal with," Jose Luis Jesus, president of the Hamburg-based organization told the daily
Die Welt.

Jesus also suggested that states that capture alleged pirates should seek legal advice from the
tribunal.

A number of countries have reinforced their military presence in the pirate-infested Indian Ocean
and Gulf of Aden but what to do with suspected pirates they nab is often fraught with legal
questions.

A majority of those captured are turned over to authorities in Somalia's breakaway state of
Puntland — whose self-proclaimed autonomy is not recognized internationally.

In March, however, the European Union signed an agreement with Kenya for Nairobi to judge
suspected pirates captured by EU vessels.

Other suspects have been transferred to the countries whose forces have caught them — notably
France and the United States.

Pirate attacks off Somalia have increased tenfold in the first quarter of 2009, jumping from six to
61 compared to the same period last year, according to the International Maritime Bureau.

Any of the 157 countries that have signed the United Nations Law of the Sea convention can bring
a case to the court.

Could we please stop attacking or insulting the US? If you want to criticize the US government's policies, please do so, specifying the policy and why you oppose it and any advice for improving it, etc. But let's please keep it somewhat rational.

I do expect Canada to abide by international rules whether we agree with them or not. That's just a sign of civilization, and it will be reciprocated to our advantage.

Now as for changing these international ules, I might agree to that as long as all countries agree together. The last thing we need is for Canada to send the wrong message to other countries that we can all just do whatever we want. That would lead to international anarchy.

Is our behaviour conditional on the US'?

I'm just pointing out how the americans already do what you say we shouldn't do..... you know... the country that you were defending just a few messages ago.

If Canada wishes to point out US violations of international laws at the UN, I'm all for it. Bear in mind though that the UN has already pointed out that Canada itself is in violation with the Catholic public schools, along with certain other issues with our treatment ofthe First Nations. But still, we certainly have a right to criticise the US at the UN. This does not give us the right to just start insulting an American in an internet forum. If we want to criticise US policies, fine, but let's do it in a respectful manner. Present the facts and critique them, fair enough. But this thread is starting to degenerate into just plain irrational America-bashing.

And yes I fully agree that there has been some inappropriate Canada-bashing too. Again, if we're to criticize Canadian policy, then let's criticise the policy, not the country.

The same appies to any country, by the way, be it Israel (if we want to criticize it's policies, fine, but not the country as such or its citizens), China, North Korea, Iran, Cuba, etc.
