Did you vote for the Conservatives for their platform or did you vote for them because you thought it was time to give someone else a turn?
There were aspects of the Tory platform I really liked; increased military spending, some constitutional reform, Quebec at UNESCO.
Primarily though I voted Tory for two reasons; One, I think they are the only party that can take on the separatists. If we want the BQ to go away there needs to be an alternative, the Tories. Also I thought the Grits attitude towards Quebec and constitutional policies had become to ideological and lacked the necessary ability to compromise on Quebecois issues. Secondly, the Grits were tired, rudderless and out of good ideas. The dearth in the Martin frontbench was evident by the fact that Anne MacLellan was deputy PM, Ujjal was health minister (Ujjal has lost all credibility in BC since he was premier and decied he was better off going to India than running the province or helping the NDP). It seemed the Liberals just fluttered from issue to issue like the wind moving the same direction of public opinion. This was personified by the famous "notwithstanding clause" elimination-debate fiasco. By the end the Grits had only one policy: To hold on to power as long as possible.
If you think getting rid of BQ is a good thing, then you are an idiot, because of the BQ, all canadians knows the scandal witht the liberal, the BQ will be the only one with real guts to tell conservatives to go to hell, only because they will never in power.
The BQ is a necessity for the people of quebec, and also for the canadians, except for people who doesnt really believe in freedom and democracy.
