In Saskatchewan, it costs $3900 to defend yourself and family from thugs. Pretty steep price to pay for simply protecting your family.

Quite the opposite really.
You see, those teens are really the victims here.... Someone else mfgd the car they stole as was the same for the firearm and ammunition, ergo, the auto and firearms mfgrs exploited those naive youth.
Yeah, except in this case those fine upstanding "bears" had a firearm. Now, I don't know if you've ever hunted bear before but I can honestly say I never ran across one that was packing some artillery.
