I don't think the results are what the party leaders wanted but the results are not going to get better...or worse.

Comments anyone...?

I am not "unhappy." I would have preferred that the Liberal Party of Canada had received the plurality, but having said that, I am happy that we are going to have another minority before us — the Conservative Party of Canada is going to need to be particularly certain to pay attention to the will of Canadians during this Parliament.

This may be the period of renewal that the Liberal Party of Canada needs.

Well Paradox, the Liberals were not harmed by FPTP as were the NDP tonight. I'm not happy because the NDP deserve more seats but still added many good MP's to parliment. I was hoping Marilyn Churley would be elected as I have a very high opinion on her. But at least she will still serve in Toronto in the Ontario parliment. (le Sigh)

Besides both of those things I am happy the Liberals got punished, and I have hope that the Conservatives have learned in the 13 years they were out of power and with them having this one chance to change the system I hope they focus more on the corrupt system in ottawa, I also hope they stay away from social and some economic issues. I hope he will also work with the NDP and take there electoral reform to heart. With both the NDP's and conservatives focus on electoral reform. Let's hope moderate's win the day.

But yeah I think this was a positive election. Disappointing the NDP can't officially hold parliment but hey! Change is sometimes good.

No.

Happy the Cons will be kept in check.

It would have been nice to see higher NDP and Bloc numbers along with the libs holding a weak minority.

The way it is, we could still see some damaging deals being done to the detriment of the citizens of canada.

Too bad for Canada the Cons did not get a huge majority. Any meaningful change will be snookered by the Old Socialist Party.

But some house cleaning should occur.

Whatever Zoofer. so what the so called "Socialists" will have to work with the "fascists" then to work things out. Hopefully the moderates (unlike yourself) Conservatives and social democrats will be able to work things out.

So you are saying the Conservative Party are fascists?
The millions of Canadians who voted Conservative are little Mussolini's and Nazis? Those are Fascists.
Do you deny the NDP are not the Old Socialist Party?

well, we all know how mob mentality works. Harper played the plebs perfectly. Lets hope that canada does not meet the same fate as the rats when they followed the Pied Piper.

In my opinion, this is the saddest day in Canadian political history. It marks the end of strong federalism.

While the conservative minority was as small as could be hoped, there is absolutely nothing standing in the way of the Block/Reform devolution of federal power.

Much as the NDP numbers are good, they are irrellevant, this is really the Block/Reform show.

Canada just became more meaningless, merely title like the EU with 10 mini countries. Good luck to the have not provinces under this new arrangement.

Anyway that is my sad prediction, the end of strong federalism under the Block and CPC.

IMO if Dithers had been reelected Canada would have fragmented into little bitty pieces.

Happy

Would be happier with a majority.

Hopefully they can maintain our strong economy and improve world perception of Canada as again a Country that has backbone and stands for something but: if the Harper government does nothing else, I would at least like to see the realization of senate reform, and set election dates. Also, allow truely free votes in parliament and to expose the true depth of the Libs
damage and abuses of power during their reign.

Well I'm saying since you are a extreme rightist... yes in your own logic they are facsists. I don't think they are facsists but the NDP is nothing like any "socialist" party unless you are talking about the few socialist parties like the one in Spain which are closer to social democrats. The NDP was formed from the CCF which was formed by Chrsitin Socialist and Labour movements. It has a strong history of denouncing and fighting against the socialist term I know your trying to peg on them and don't denny you are trying to make them sound like a marxist party because we both know whenever a conservative trys to beg the NDP as a socialist party they are indeed using a scar tactic because most people think of the marxist tradition of socialism and not the other forms as in New labour in the UK based on the same roots as the NDP, or that of the German social democrats, yet again based on the same principals of the NDP. Never has the NDP had any marxist roots.

But if you call the NDP socialist... then the CPC in your own refrain are facsists. *shrugs*

As the NDP in my eyes are classical social democrats, and that of the CPC are more or less conservatives..

and if the CPC choses to use the bloq in the next 4 years..... then they the CPC will return to it's reform roots... lose membership in the east and most likely go back to 60-80 someodd seats and will never enjoy power again.

Lighten up Freethinker

The senate will hold up any real damage for as long as this group is going to be in power. It could have been a lot worse...it could have been a CPC majority. It will give the Liberals a chance to select a new leader and have another go. There was a fair amount of unease in the party that has to be cleared up before the next election.

RE: Is Everyone Happy Wit

I'm happy.
With a minority conservative government, absolutely nothing is going to get accomplished. They'll have to shoot perfectly straight or another election could be called, or the liberals and NDP could form a coalition to throw the conservatives out of power. It's a beautiful situation of checks and balances that won't let any extreme win. My prediction is that Canada is likely to stay in this situation, and no more dumb asses will be able to push a bad policy for atleast 4 years.

My only problem is that Harper is going to be dealing with the US president now and may end up signing something detrimental to Canada. It's not likely though as it would result in a loss next election.

I'm also glad that the NDP got a few more seats, as they are the best social conscience to a conservative government.
