Is authoritarianism on the rise?

I still believe in popular representation and human rights, but perhaps more narrowly than I used to. I still wouldn't consider myself a fascist, but I could consider myself democratically authoritarian. From my observation, people do seem to be questioning the excesses of liberty. How much of a trend do you think this is?

I think in my kid's lifetime, babies will be born with implanted chips into their bodies. Safety will be the main reason...but then the government will exploit it all and monitor people from cradle to grave under the guise of security.

And the novel 1984 will become art imitating life.

Oh, just to clarify. I meant I'm more authoritarian than today's norm. Heck, even I'd come across as an extreme libertarian compared to what you just described above.

different kinds and degrees of authoritarianism are possible along a spectrum.

Fascist governments are cropping up all over disguised as populists. Trump is a fascist puppet of the ruling elite and his own bloated ego. This is all a chess game to those who rule the world. They have been taking away our freedoms by increments for a 100 years or more and nobody seems to notice or care. Security is a buzz word these authoritarian scum use to get you to accept fewer freedoms. They use false flag events to scare the crap out of the sheeple to make them compliant.

It's OK. Nothing to see here. Go back to sleep.

Firstly, not all forms of authoritarianism are necessarily undemocratic and not all are fascist. Take me for example. I'm very pro-open-borders for example yet still believe in strict regulation of gambling, prostitution, cannabis, alcohol, and tobacco for example.
