Calgary's pretty good. I am from Toronto and actually prefer Calgary. I think the real estate market here is pretty good but it's still tight to get in. Only the very expensive houses dropped in asking price and even those didn't drop by much. There are a lot of condos available though. The weather's not that bad either. I didn't really notice much difference as a former Torontonian apart from the fact that it is really sunny here. In the 3 years I've been here I don't think it's ever gone below -30 at the most on one or two days. The rest was always moving up and down so even if it was -15 a couple of days it would be around zero the next few days. It's also surprisingly diverse and cultural even if it retains its original 'cowboy' identity in some ways. University of Calgary is a good school as well from what I understand. Not sure where the real estate market will go but overall I don't think Calgary is going to slow down much, at least not for the middle classes, I guess we'll all find out. Nonetheless, the houses are in the standard middle income earner's range for a lot of nice houses in pretty decent areas. Otherwise there's always renting...but it depends on the landlord...some apt building/condo landlords are not that good. Renting in a house is better from what I hear.
