Incorrect. If he had been found to be mentally unstable, he would have been issued to a mental institution for care. Why would he want sympathy? Why do they always want sympathy, these criminal sorts? So they can justify their crimes based on our empathy. "I wouldn't have raped and killed but I had such a hard life--boo-hoo"

Wrong. In order for someone to be found mentally unstable, they would have be seen by a psychiatrist first, then after recommendations are made, THEN they would go there. And usually, a judge orders someone to go there, so the person would need to go to court first. Nobody can go to a mental institution directly from the crime scene.

As far as sympathy goes, Fabricant isn't even talking about his crimes. He's talking about his health care. Usually, when criminals want to get sympathy, it is because they probably have a parole coming soon and want to get out. This guy isn't going anywhere.
