A multinational ad agency is being blamed for the death of a young Indonesian woman who collapsed shortly after complaining about being made to work 30 hours straight.
"It is with a heavy heart and deep sadness that we have to inform you we have lost our friend, sister, and work colleague, Mita Diran," reads a post on Young & Rubicam Indonesia's Facebook page. "Mita was a talented copywriter with a gentle smile who will always live on in our hearts."
On Saturday, a post on the Twitter account Mita Diran read: "30 hours of working and still going strooong."
Though the official cause of death is not known, people were quick to lash out at her employer.
"Shame on you, Y&R Indonesia," Leonardo Novarino wrote on Facebook.
Tiagho Diniz wrote: "The life of a human being is gone for one deadline/client."
Earlier this year, Li Yuan, 24, died after working overtime for a month for his employer, ad agency Ogilvy & Mather Beijing.
