The only thing about the denmark/canada game that will be interesting for me is 'jensen', who will be playing for the danes. He is canucks first round draft pick and had a very very good training camp, and next year
he could possibly make the team.
Other than that, the game has nothing to offer, and canada will probably win by ten.

Well you were only out by 2 talloola - good prediction. The Danes didn't really give us much of a game at all and our kids got lazy and stupid. I don't know what Don Hays is going to do about all the penalties but he sure has to do something and fast. We take waaaay too many needless penalties and that is going to come back and bite us against more disciplined teams of similar skill sets.

Meanwhile, Mark Stone continues to impress his goal scoring ability upon us. I sure hope his hand is okay. I thought Mark Vinsentin did a fair job in goal but I want to see Wedgewood in goal against the US. I like his style in the net much more than Mark's - he looks steady and ready - and he can make the big saves.

MORE DISCIPLINE GUYS. GO, CANADA, GO!

When a team we've beaten, beats a team we have yet to play we tend to be overconfident. Denmark should be a win for Canada
but you never know. If the Canadian team plays their best they will probably win but it may not be the rout everybody is expecting.
We'll see.....:roll::smile:

Well it may not have been a rout but according to the G&M it was a romp. The kids won the game by an eight point differential. These last two games were way too easy for our guys - they really need to play tougher teams to stay sharp and keep their focus. They learn little from beating a team that they can literally skate circles around or score a short-handed goal against.

When you have eight different players scoring goals and multiplies at that - Stone/2G-assist; Scott Harrington/1G - 3 assists;Brandon Gormely 2Gs; (the latter two play defence); Quinton Howden, Ryan Strome and Freddie Hamilton, Brendan Gallagher and Brett Connolly had a goal apiece - you know the other team is way outplayed, it isn't all the goalie's fault.

Watching Russia vs Latvia right now, the Russians are up 9 to 0 early in the 3rd.

Stand corrected.

I watched part of the Spengler Cup with Wolfsburg edging out Canada's team. The game and tourny just doesn't match IIHF for fun and excitement.

Yeah, I watched the game today too, gopher - too bad it had to go to a shoot-out but they played well. I agree that the level of intensity you see at the World Juniors is not matched by players in the Spengler Cup. I like it when they show old clips of the guys back in their hay days when they played at the same level.

Pro hockey, like pro basketball is just not for me. Amateur hockey at Juniors and NCAA levels are the most fun. Earlier tonight I also watched Florida-Rutgers in Division I b-ball. The game was won in double OT and it was fun - in fact, about as good as it gets.

Oh I still like pro hockey - after all that is where most of our juniors end up after the Worlds - many of the players are being scouted right now.

But I do agree that watching the World Juniors is special and they do add an extra level of intensity to the game. The rules regarding penalties in the World Juniors help, for the most part, to keep the game cleaner and quicker and we get treated to 60 minutes of really good hockey instead of glove-dropping and fisticuffs.

.....................................

Whoa! With just over seven minutes left in the game, the Russians are going on PP after racking up a total of 12 points against the Latvians who have yet to score a single goal - my heart goes out to their goalie, tough night for him.

Oops! Make that 13 to nothing. Now this, this is a total rout. The game commentators are saying the Lat's should pull their goalie and put the back-up in - not a bad idea as the Russians just scored yet another goal, make that 14 to zip. One Russian player has 9 points on the night for pete's sake.

this is a goofy tournament till teams start playing teams at their own level. junior hockey is fine as
long as one watches it and accepts it for what it is. lots of mistakes, lots of energy, and I guess the
mistakes create excitement for fans.

yes, mowich, all the juniors of the past that we all watched in these tournaments are now in the NHL,
well, not all, but many. That is their desire, and that is where the best hockey is played, not the
same as each other at all, but it isn't suppose to be, these are kids, those are men, with a few very
talented kids strewn around here and there.

hockey is entertaining at any level, have you ever watched the developmental teams ? 4,5 and 6 year olds, it rocks.
and shows how much fun the game is to play, and how addictive it is.

the speed and desire and the size of the NHL players 'now' is amazing, and no other teams in the world
could ever keep up with that pace.

well, so much for all of the media who were blatting on and on about the strong u.s. squad, and talked
about nothing else but the big new years eve match against the canadians.

Now this game tonight means nothing for the u.s. team.

that czech goalie who stood on his head thru many shorthanded situations last night belongs to detroit,
so we'll see him in the near future I would think, in the NHL.

A surprising development for sure. Canada should not get too cocky. The Russians and Sweeds look pretty good too.

They never really got it together as a team, from what I saw talloola and their goalie's weren't up to much. I sure hope Don Hay got the message across about penalties because the US team has nothing to lose and if we don't play disciplined hockey against them, they could very well come up with a win. I know that means nothing to our team as we already have a berth, but still, they have to play cleaner hockey.

He was outstanding last night, talloola.............could do no wrong........loved watching the team celebrate their victory.........long time coming.
.......................................................................

However, Mzarek - the Czech goalie, is having a bit tougher time of it
against the Fins this afternoon ..........he gave up two goals in the 1rst period but is hanging in there about 7 minutes into the 2nd. The Czechs have yet to get on the scoreboard. Mind you, his team is not helping him out by taking so many penalties as they did in previous games. The young Fin goalie is standing tall so far with some really good saves.

A surprising development for sure. Canada should not get too cocky. The Russians and Sweeds look pretty good too.

So do the Czechs and the Fins, I'd Rather................though the Czechs take even more penalties than our kids do but they were able to back that up with really solid goals - lots of solid goals.

don hay was very irritated last game because of those penalties, and i'm sure those kids heard it 'big time'from him after the game, should make a difference in their dicipline from here on in, and if it
doesn't, then they will throw away the tournament, and not give themselves a chance at all.

So true, talloola................I was just thinking as I watch the Czech vs Fin game (Fins ahead 4 to zip about midway thru the 3rd) that I hope the Czech's keep up their undisciplined play until they play our guys and that our guys really did get Don's message. Quite a turn around for the Czech team today.

Finland won 4 - zip over the Czechs today which puts them in second place behind Canada.

Getting ready for our game in about 30 minutes - logging off now to get my hockey T on, mix a nice tasty Caesar and dish up some munchies.

..........oh and grab my Ole' horn..........can't forget that!

GO CANADA, GO!

USA has no chance in winning because we send our best players to college rather than Juniors. Just look at how puny and pathetic our team's effort has been.

I wouldn't completely agree with that. I probably wouldn't have picked the huge defensmen the American team had because they were too slow. Galagher, one of the Canadian forwards, who is just five foot eight, was able to skate circles around them and take the puck
away from the 6 foot five, 6 foot six defensemen almost at will. Early on, I thought they were a bit over confident but they settled down and were a much better team later.

USA has enough players but they are not prepared properly because they spend too little time in practice. The NCAA only allows 20 hours of practice per season and only 8 hours per week in off season. This is hardly enough.

In the first semi-final Sweden plays Finland. In the second Canada plays Russia. The winners of those two games
will play for the Gold and Silver while the losers will play for the bronze

we have an american on the canucks who went to college to play hockey, not bad, not bad at all.
college didn't hurt him, although he would have become what he is today faster, had he played through
the canadian major junior league.
when he came to canucks he was a huge bundle of nervous/physical energy, his hands took a few years to
catch up to his legs and brain.

ryan kesler

the two goalies in the russia/czech game were amazing.

I've got butterflies for this one. I hope our kids can contain Yakopov, score early and often, play clean and pay attention to the puck at all times.
This is a big game for our guys and nerves cannot help but play a part - hope they can work them out early in the first period.

GO, CANADA, GO!
