A man in Markham, Ontario is furious after his car, garage and home have been damaged due to lack of information from a Nissan recall.
On February 13th he had taken his car to the dealership for regular maintenance checks and they verified that his car was fine. He has all the documentation to prove this.
On February 23 he parked his Nissan Rogue in his garage as he normally would. An hour later he heard his car alarm go off and went to check only to find his car on fire. Thinking the car might explode he called 911 and got his family out of the house. By the time emergency crews arrived the fire had already spread to his house.
Days after this fire he received the recall notice from Nissan about the wiring harness connector could corrode due to exposure to snow and/or water containing road salt. The company said the exposure could result in an electrical short causing damage to the connector and increasing the risk of a fire. This recall was issue don January 26 so why did he only receive it more than a month later?
Transport Canada is currently investigating.
