What would be the chain of events?

Lets say, in a decade or so, their is a new separation rise, and a referendum and Quebec votes to leave.

Now what do you see happening?

The rest of the nation stays untited? Or some big splits..

I see chaos, with different provinces leaving:

Atlantic Provinces -

They would be separated from the rest of the nation. I see something like, Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and P.E.I. uniting into a nation. Newfoundland would probably go independent.

Western Canada

Maybe a 4 province alliance? Alberta may go solo.

North

Guessing Nunavut would go solo, and Yukon and N.W.T. would join a western alliance.

Ontario

Remains with whatever will be left of Canada.

United States Factor

Maybe some provinces would hop in for state-hood. The U.S. Constitution automatically approves any Canadian provinces that apply for state-hood.

Anyways this is all hypothetical. Anyways whats your take?

When Quebec separates, the world will continue to turn., the sun will continue to raise from the east and minus 35 will still feel quite cold.
Atlantic provinces: Yes they would be separated from the ROC, but Alaska is separated from the U.S. so is Hawaii, and people there still continue to breathe normally.
Why would the 4 western provinces merge? Are they waiting for Quebec to separate to do so?
Why are you expecting an apocalypse?

Well I personally would, PERSONALLY, like to see BC, AB, SK, and MB, become individual states in America.

State-hood would be way better for us.

And I do expect some chaos. When a society is not stable (like if Quebec left). It hurts the economy. Investments and trade suffer, due to the instability of the nation. I would see a Militia-State, and absolute chaos, with people selling their homes, packing up, getting out, and fleeing to safety.

It woould be a very scary time, and the whole world would be captivated and watching.

The whole world?

I suppose if you consider that syndicated comic strips reach the whole world, there's a chance a few might hear about it....

If Quebec separates, the devastation to the rest of Canada would be unimaginable....

Partys and celebrations all over the place and not at sneering contemptuous Quebecer to be seen...

How could this nation recover from that much jubilation?....;)

NO. If Quebec seperated, Canadians would fear for their lives, and they would selll their homes and leave in droves heading south to the USA. The USA would be their refugee from the Militia-state Canada, being destroyed due to the revelations of Quebec leaving.

With all this, I still want Quebec to seperate. We need this Canadian revolution.

Canada would turn into a post-New Orleans type society, and the ENTIRE world would be watching as scramble to save our lives.

It would be chaos beyond belief.

If Quebec separates, the natives will separate from Quebec and re-join Canada. This will be unacceptable to Quebec as it will only leave a small strip of land along the St Lawrence. Most likely civil war will break out in Quebec and if Canada does not assist the Natives, the US will. This will determine whether Quebec will stay a part of Canada or become part of the States. The Separatists know this BTW and they realize that an independant Quebec with it's present borders is impossible.

Simply put, they won't separate.

Who would want to help the natives? I think Canada, Quebec, and the USA would just abandon them. They constantly complain and demand things. They can intergrate, or go North.

I don't see Natives being a problem. Noone would bother helping them.

frankly, I'd be the happiest person in the world if Quebec left, thank good and good riddance.

other provinces wont leave, it all boils down to economics. With Ontario having the largest part of the economy, whose going to subsidize all the have not provinces like the atlantic provinces?

I vote for a trial split. Five years. No federal funding. No federal interference in Quebec politics. Let them use the dollar if they want. No Quebec participation in federal government.

It'll be fun.

I like that idea! Let them see how much they will suffer by leaving Canada. Mwhahah (evil laugh).

For 21% of the population, Quebec get too much attention and is treated too well.

That sarcastic comment hurt my feelings. I remember reading somewhere I while back, that a Canadian province has easy access in getting state-hood, due to the nature of the Canada-America relationship.

Nope, you're wrong.

And why did it hurt your feelings? Ther ei sno provision within the US Constitution for any Province of Canada to join the Union........easily.

Ok I guess this person from an other website lied to me. *seeks revenge*

But I think the US would open their arms to a rogue Canadian province.

The amount of natural resources they would control would make them a great ally. Besides, civil war in Quebec would not benefit anybody. Both Canada and the US would want it over quickly. Look at the amount of power Hydro Quebec supplies to the US (produced on native lands) and you will see that a lengthy civil war is definitely not in the US's interest

That was well thought out and likely quite accurate.

Well everyone is making good points. But if Quebec can't come up with their share of the national debt, in cash <they can get it from France> then we would just have to meet them on the Plains of Abraham again because we all have too much invested in the province to loose it. They can't take from the federal system like a province and tell everyone else they are a country. We would need to annex Hull for starters, all those Canadian government buildings that Canada built would not be needed by the country of Quebec, besides the people of Canada payed for them.
Oh yes, also annex the Eastern Townships, as we <Canada> are bound by treaty to secure the St Lawerence Seaway as it was a joint US-Canada project.
So Quebec better start issueing bonds cuz it's gonna cost to leave. And I almost forgot, the First Nations people will force their land claims on the northern half of the province so they can remain in Canada. It could become another territory. Then they could sell all that James Bay hydro to the US. I better stop now before I tick someone off.
Also what about the significant amount of people in Montreal that are not Franaphone and want to be Canadian. Ya, we better annex Montreal too.

I think Quebec's chance to leave is past. The secessionist movement's greatest leader is long gone and what passes for leadership today in the province can be found in jokes like the present PQ head. There's no momentum in separation at the moment. Given Alberta is the province now that would be best served by its own independence maybe our attention should be there.
