With films such as "Outlaw" and "Mr Bean's Holiday" being released this year, it's a boom time for the British movie industry. Now only the US spends more on making movies than Britain.
"I Want Candy" has been described as the British equivalent of "American Pie" and stars US actress Carmen Electra as porn star Candy Fiveways.......
I Want Candy is a 2007 comedy from Ealing Studios about two lads from Leatherhead, Surrey who want to make it in the movie business. It is a distinctively British film shot in the style of the classic American teen comedies like American Pie or Ferris Bueller's Day Off and stars Carmen Electra as Candy Fiveways, the 'world's number one adult star', alongside up and coming British actors, Tom Riley and Tom Burke.
The film follows the exploits of the two young heroes as they pursue their dream by making a porn film for a sleazy gangster with aspirations, played by Eddie Marsan. Michelle Ryan, who first appeared in EastEnders, plays their best friend, Mackenzie Crook their film school tutor, and Jimmy Carr appears as a porn-loving video shop owner.. Stephen Surjik (Wayne's World 2) directs and it is produced by the brothers Barnaby and Piers Thompson. Popular UK Model Louise Wotton even features a cameo in this film.
The March edition of the UK's Empire (magazine) describes it as a "Fresh...Funny - A British American Pie". The film, made on a low budget, opens on over 300 screens in the UK on March 23.
PLOT
IFPORNSTARS, ping-pong balls and pears get you going, I Want Candy is the film for you.
A tale of two lads from Leatherhead trying to break into the movies, the film sees our protagonists head for the Big Smoke (London) where they stumble on the opportunity of a lifetime.
Frustrated by their pessimistic film tutor Mackenzie Crook, London beckons for Joe (Tom Riley) and Baggy (Tom Burke). They pitch their feature-length love story, The Love Storm, to a handful of studios.
Predictably, the pair are met with instant rejection, until they unwittingly sell their film to a porn producer - who wants one woman alone to take the starring role.
And that woman is Candy Fiveways, a Hollywood porn star whose expertise lies in more than just the missionary position.
One phone call later, it looks like our budding film makers are going to get their girl... but unfortunately it transpires they have simply succeeded in buying a blow-up doll of Ms Fiveways.
While the film could have conceivably ended there, of course it does not.
Our heroes are despondent, but by chance, Ms Fiveways happens to be in town promoting her memoirs and naturally, the twosome are able to convince her to take the role.
And so begins the filming process, accompanied by predictably "hilarious consequences".
Casting sessions become nude free-for-alls, there are plenty of comedy mishaps and sticky situations, and Ms Fiveways performs her party trick involving a pear.
The combination of MTV babe Electra with Michelle Ryan (Zoe from Eastenders) and Jimmy Carr as a local video shop clerk is an odd one, but endearingly, it seems to work.
And as for the fifth way? Well, you'll just have to ask Candy about that.
