Gonzo said:The Seal Hunt realy pisses me off. The reason our fishery is in such a bad shape is over-fishing, and polution. But they blame the seal population and want to bash there heads in and skin them alive. Nature has always worked itself out, it doesn't need us screwing around with it.
When I hear of animal cuelty I get pissed off. Psychopaths start off torturing animals and then progress to people. We need tough laws to protect animals and wild life.
Again, this is a case of people having interfered in the natural process in the first place. These seals, which you are opposed to killing, are overpopulating their area, as a result of the fact that their natural predators have been driven from the area by human encroachment. This overpopulation results in a depletion of the fish stocks as well, since this is their primary food source (exacerbated by human overfishing). A final result of the seal overpopulation would be widespread starvation of the seals, with dead seal carcasses washing up on beaches all through the Gulf of St Lawrence and East Coast. The unfortunate truth is that in order to prevent the widespread starvation we now need to intervene and cull the herds. Contrary to its appearance, the seal harvest, as it is conducted now, is one of the most humane and efficient ways to do this
