RE: I Am Not Un-American,

Actually it would just be your government collecting it, most likely from your ISP. They would then turn it over to the UN.

The issue it's meant to address is that UN really has no money of its own. As a result it cannot police itself etc. and ends up being unduly criticised for the actions of member states it really has no control over when they are on UN missions.

Think of the criticism the UN has taken over "UN" soldiers committing rape. Those soldiers aren't "UN" soldiers, they are under the command and control of the member states who sent them. If those nations refuse to do anything about the conduct of those people, there is little the UN can do about it.

If they had a source of income and a mandate to do so, then they could act though.

If the member states simply controlled their own soldiers, it wouldn't be an issue.

I'm not paying Global taxes.

The UN is showing itself to be irrelevant as stated in the one link you posted.

"Kofi Annan, the United Nations secretary-general, last night presented a sweeping set of reforms to the 191 member states in an attempt to save his organisation from irrelevance and decline."

To pay taxes to that Org, is to put up with taxation without representation...the UN doesn't serve me in any way, and as far as I'm concerned I have no voice in it...hell I barley have a voice in my own country.

And one of the most often excuses heard for countries erfusing to do so is that if American soldiers aren't subject to international law, then their soldiers shouldn't be either.

"Kofi Annan, the United Nations secretary-general, last night presented a sweeping set of reforms to the 191 member states in an attempt to save his organisation from irrelevance and decline."

A pretty selective bit of quoting, Jay. You should actually take the time to read the whole report. When you do it becomes pretty obvious that the biggest single problem with the UN, what is driving the perception of irrelevance and decline more than anything else, is the actions of the five permanent members of the Security Council.

To pay taxes to that Org, is to put up with taxation without representation...the UN doesn't serve me in any way, and as far as I'm concerned I have no voice in it...hell I barley have a voice in my own country.

Again, pretty selective and you aren't really understanding the plan or the context. You are also represented in the UN by an appointee of your government, which would be responsible for collecting the taxes from you (or, more likely, your ISP), so your claim of taxation without representation is pretty thin.

You are ignoring that the plan comes from a different era and has little support among member nations, which is why it hasn't even come close to being enacted. If you are really concerned about it, contact your MP though. I don't know who your MP is, but I'm sure you'll find that he/she and whatever party they belong to doesn't even consider it a possible issue in the forseeable future.

Bullog? Thanks Peapod for whatever editing you did. This is gradually gaining an ugly momentum, and I appreciate your putting your foot out to stop it.

It seems you have a travelling coterie with you when you are in "debate" mode - if one can call your insults debate.

FYI, Wednesday's Child ... my comment to you had nothing at all to do with your conversation with Rev. My comment was directly for you, and I just picked this thread to do it in. As I said, I took the time to read your posts. What you and Rev are discussing here has nothing to do with my comment. Off topic? Yep. But I didn't think it warranted its own thread.

"In Sympathy"??? Gad, what hubris. "Pompous" come to anyone's mind?

Your accusation of being part of Rev's "travelling coterie" is hardly an insult. I happen to think the guy is informed, smart and funny. Nice try, but if you're going to insult me, you'll have to put a bit more effort into it.

bulldog,
I don't like butter, no more thank you notes...thanks

I absolutely adore butter. Real butter. None of that fat-free
yellow gookum for me! Butter adds flavor to just about everything. It is essential in my fridge. More butter, the
better.

Interesting. But they are likelier to hate the government and its criminal imperialism rather than the people of the USA.

Really? I suppose you missed this part:

The poll showed the ‘ugly American’ is considered by outsiders to be “rude, greedy and violent.” ‘Rude’ is, course, a matter of perception; but it is hard to argue with the other two adjectives.

That is a matter that I have discussed with a great many others in varying web sites. While seemingly condemning Americans, their real anger is towards the government's criminal conduct. Again, I stress my previous words more likely as the reason for this unfortunate sentiment.

I have a neighbor who is greatly angered at Bush's criminality. He tells me that many of his countrymen share this view, but they emphatically do NOT condemn the people of America. Quite the contrary, they LOVE the USA and its great people whom they view as the most charitable on earth. True story! :D :D :D

If you don't like the perception, maybe you should consider why you are being perceived that way and modify your behaviour accordingly.

Why on earth should we? We have done quite fine the past 200 some odd years. Don't see any reason why Americans should change their behavior.

Really? How many supporters of yours on this site, actually think the American people are the most charitable on earth. Take a poll and see what your answer will be. True Story :D:D:D

RE: I Am Not Un-American,

Then quit whining when people criticise you. You do things that causes people to have a negative perception of you, but when they speak out you say they are just being "anti-American".

Either smarten up or take the criticisms you've worked so hard to earn.
