Is labour peace with the teachers unions in Ontario worth an extra $7 billion?
According to the government, that is the price tag of the demands from the Ontario Secondary School Teachers Federation (OSSTF) expanded across the entire education sector.
(Sadly - all the education sector union HOGS have escalator clauses so that what one wins - the others “escalate” up to - so a win for OSSTF HOGS is a victory for ALL HOGS!! And such a victory would set a precedent for “negotiations” with other HOG trades - garbagemen and such as well!!!!!!!!!!)
And sadly, most contracts in the education sector have what are called “me-too” clauses.
Unlike the “me-too” movement that swept Hollywood a couple of years back, this one doesn’t get you fired — it gets you a raise.
Under the current system, if one education union negotiates a higher raise than another union, then they all get the higher raise.
That’s something Education Minister Stephen Lecce confirmed as he laid out the full cost of the demands from the teachers’ unions.
“If the compensation of 1% which they agreed to went to 2% then the ‘me-too’ clause would kick in,” Lecce said.
Lecce said he believes in fair compensation, but pointed out that Ontario teachers are the second-highest paid in Canada and one of the best paid educators in the world, according to the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development survey of industrialized countries.
(Teacher HOGS DO NOT wish to discuss the FALLING ENROLLMENT numbers that occured at Cdn schools in recent years - nor do they want to discuss the SHRINKING number of kids in classes during the Wynne-bag LIE-beral rein - NOR DO THEY wish to discuss the steady INCREASE in the number of “teaching assistants” during the Wynne-bag years - and all of these facts have made life EVER EASIER for our teachers!!!!!!!!!!)
(So - in light of the STEADY INCREASE in the cost of education - coupled with the reductions in class sizes and numbers of kids - WHY ARE EQAO TEST SCORES DROPPING YEAR OVER YEAR???????????????????????????)
(DISMAL EQAO test scores PROVE that our teacher HOGS HAVE NOT EARNED a pay raise!! And considering how dishonest they have been about manipulating test scores- by designating”weak” students as learning disabled and thus not needing to be tested - teachers HOGS have actively ensured that only the best and brightest will be tested - in a clear BUT FAILED effort to minimize those FALLING SCORES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
In addition to a pay increase of 2%, double the government offer of 1%, OSSTF is also demanding no changes to class size, no introduction of online courses as a requirement, increased parental leave, preparation time and more.
(And WHY would teachers be troubled about online class teaching?? After all George Brown College has PAID to put up ads in bus shelters TOUTING THE CONVENIENCE of online learning!! And after all - teachers whine that poor kids do not get the same opportunities to learn computer skills as their richer neighbours so what is wrong with teaching some classes online with school computers and specialized teachers?? Other than the fact that not so many HOGS MAY be required in that more computerized system since online teachers may not be unionized and thus unions will have less DUES PAID???????)
(Our teacher union leaders want as many HOGS employed as possible - so those HOG VOTES can be bought by LIE-berals who will then ENHANCE the Hog gravy train! This is union feather bedding and shameless make work at its finest - and public debt be damned!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
Applied across the board, the government says this would amount to an extra $7 billion over the course of the contract — and $3 billion per year by year three.
For OSSTF President Harvey Bischof, it’s just about keeping up with the Joneses — even though the Joneses make far less than teachers.
(Reality is that Bischof is seeking ANY EXCUSE to grab gravy - as his mandate as a HOG LEADER REQUIRES HIM TO DO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
The average high school teacher in Ontario earns $92,900 according to government figures.

Bischof said private sector wages have been rising at a higher rate than what his members have been receiving.
(Ah the quality of HOG LIES is improving!! Private sector wages are driven largely by PAPER PROFITS - meaning the INFLATION GAME LIE-berals are playing using things like their minimum wage increase that they promptly TAXED AWAY using things like their carbon tax - and that VAST INCREASE in deficit financing!! It is only HOGS who seek and win REAL WAGE IMPROVEMENTS ABOVE the rate of inflation!! Frankly it is the cost of HOG pensions that is killing us!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
He might want to be careful about making that type of comparison, because I can’t think of a single job that pays as well as teaching to work just nine months of the year and get all of the prime vacation spots off as a given.
I also can’t think of a private sector job that allows you to retire at 59 with such a generous pension.
If Bischof wants to make the comparison to the private sector then I’ll welcome that, but his members won’t like the results.
(Not to worry - teachers will just issue Fake News and DENIALS about any comparisons they don’t like - including claims about daily hours worked!!!!!!!!!!!)
The teachers walking the picket lines in the rotating one-day strikes and those threatening to walk off the job in the coming days should realize how good they have it.
(THEY KNOW!! That is why there will only be those rotating occasional strikes until COTTAGE SEASON returns and they can picket in spring sun and do their spring cleaning around the country retreat on pleasant weekends!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
I’m not saying there can’t be raises or shouldn’t be raises — now or in the future — but what Bischof and the other teachers’ unions want is more money for less work.
(The PROBLEM HERE is that teacher HOGS do BELIEVE they are MORE ENTITLED than the rest of us and that our kids exist to SERVE THEM!!!!!!!!!!!)
That isn’t the reality for most people.
And the idea that raising the average high school class size from 22 to 25 will somehow destroy quality of education is utter nonsense unsupported by facts — research does not support what Bischof is claiming.
With such rich demands on the table from the teachers, the question remains — is buying labour peace with the likes of Bischof worth an extra $7 billion to you?
The answer from me is a hard no.
(Truth be told - the anser from most ordinary people is that same HARD NO!! The problem is that one employed Cdn in three IS A HOG and they all vote YES - with the added bonus that WAY TO MANY of our news media people are also members of UNIFOR union and those HOGS ALSO VOTE YES and then deceitfully PRETEND on their news casts that HOGS have very substantial support from the general public - when they DONT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!)
