I am sure the red states would be more than welcoming in having these American Citizens live amungst them. Ever hear the term southern hospitality? It sure applies in these parts.

I did notice how friendly the southern states were when I initially moved to the US. Complete strangers say hi to you as you walk by on the street. Public service folks are extremely friendly. Everyone was so welcoming. This is surely not the case in democrat "blue" states such as New York or Illinois (Chicago) ...far from it. Folks there swear left and right and have really negative attitudes. They only look out for number one ... themselves. Hell even where I'm from originally, Montreal, people there are just rude.

That is why the best option for these displaced folks would be to settle in one of the southern or deep southern states.

ever been to the deep south?? ever experience this myth of Southern Hospitality for yourself??

I have been to New Orleans........and although superficially hospitable to tourists....... the undertone is something else entirely. But yes, if you are a southerner ......you are IN...

Fascinating place , culturally, geographically, etc.

(NJ: from Montreal originally??? hmm. Could explain why you defend bush and the US (your chosen country -) so blindly........

Yup, I have been to Atlanta Georgia and Birmingham Alabama, both cities in the deep south. In addition, I live next to Arkansas, a Deep Southern state, so there is a Deep Southern influence here as well (even though Olkahoma is part of the mid-west) . As I've mentioned before, folks here in the south will say hi to you even if they don't know you when walking by on the sidewalk. Try saying hi to folks in New York, Chicago, Toronto, Montreal ... liberal type cities, they will reply ... Whaddda ya want? There is a big difference. Here I actually get along with all my neighbors.

Why I defend President Bush? There ain't no mystery there, OB. Unlike Canada, President Bush believes in freedom, will fight for it, beleives in a nation under God indivisible, which is more than I could say for Canada. Also, I am a traditionalist, I want to raise my family with values that were passed down many generations and find it is getting harder to do that in Canada. Also, the President's views on abortion and capital punishment reflect the views of my family and most Americans. In Canada, society is taking a turn for the worst, many folks through the last several decades have given up their faith. No so here.

I'm wondering if these purveyors of deep southern hospitality would be equally free with the "Howdys" if these strangers were other than Caucasian...

Yeah, 'cause there's no legacy of racism and intolerance in the southern states.

Yup, you are correct Rev. Back 40-50 years ago before major changes in civil rights there were major problems with racism. However, that is all gone now. We have equality for all citizens, no matter what race. We are living now, in the present, not 50 years ago. Most folks from that era are probably dead anyways.

Racism still exists massively in the South, James. It's a problem everywhere, but the southern US is known for it. You can try to deny it if you like, but that would make you part of the problem, wouldn't it?

Sure they are. There are notable immigrants that are visible minorities here in Oklahoma from places like Mexico, Jamaica, India, Philippines ...etc) and we all get along. Many of these folks fit right into the culture here.

interesting... and fair enough. If this is your preference, and it fullfills your own life/ ambitions / lifestyle ..........no problem.

In many ways, Ca is more progressive, than the US......because it is not held back by "religious" beliefs or "traditions". Traditions have their place and are to be respected.---for what they are......but if they start to interfere with progress /advancement etc.... then they are a hindrence.

( just my own view on this. and each to his own. But thanks for explaining the continued support for a leader that the majority of the world thinks .....(well, it has been documented, and is being documented as we speak ....) is an ineffective , unethical, immoral, intellectually challenged, capable challenged and greedy to the point of selfishness. Canada may have its problems.........and it does. (no one denies that one.....as most of us are realists)......but it sure as hell is not as greedy, selfish, and murderous as the US is. The last 4 plus years have shown the US to the world for what it really is. ......and it ain't all that pleasant.

Absolutely. Each one of us deserves to live in a society that reflects who we are. To anyone in a foreign country that wants to and has the opportunity to move to North America (US or Canada), I would advise this: If you are of a conservative background, immigrate to the US, if you are liberal minded, then Canada would be the place to immigrate to.
