Thank you Twila.

Tibear you made the flippant remark. While you may not have said Edge & I were wrong, you implied it.

It should also be brought to your attention... that while I don't live in Canada anymore...I payed taxes in Canada for forty years. I think I did more than my fair share to put your kids through school. I paid to support a Medical program that I can no longer use. I paid into CPP which will support your retirement. So turn on the light,eh?

You were here for forty years, Zen? No wonder I feel so old...I am. I remember when you you were young and we were using my National Lampoon jacket to strike out with waitresses.

i think ppl pick the human and not the animal on the train tracks (if the other choice is a beloved pet), because we are not only trained from birth about how important human life is, but we are also competing against 35000 years of evolutionary saving human lives at all costs. it is an elemantal response to save a human life.
plus if a person saved a stupid dog over a 3 yr olds life, they'd probably and rightly be charged.

but what i find humorize (which apparently i can't even spell) is how many ppl forget that we are animals too. and i don't even know if we're even animals at it's finest. i can think of a few species that are more noble, orderly and coherent than the human animal.

who's to say intelligence is what makes an animal superior? as far as i can see, we're the only animal around who single-handedly is destroying the very earth we all need to survive.

it is only by luck that our evolutionary branch took a bit of a different turn and our brains started growing.

and i agree with the whole dog/family thing. many pets are beloved family members. my sister has a german shepherd that she treats/loves like her second child. i have two small children that i don't trust the dog around. she is skittish. so when she comes over, we compromise. the dog gets to come inside, but must stay in the basement.

Zen. I think I should be thanking you. My daughter is in school. Honour roll student. We both thank you for your contribution to her education.

in a biology class i took a few years ago, this is what my professor had to say.

the world can sustain 12 billion people. that's it. we're over 6 billion right now.

fresh water is drying up and disappearing. 'they' figure that the next world war...world war III will be over fresh water.
makes a scary picture doesn't it?

the only land type growing right now is desert. we are suffering dessertifation (i think i made that word up, but you catch my drift) that is growing each year. california, literally loses acreage of fertile land each year to dessertification.

you cannot simply grow more food. wouldn't that be lovely though?

earth facts are scary. but putting our head in the sand about them, is scarier.
