PM has proposed a 1B dollar fund. Has to be approved in the Budget. To be used for Job Creation and developement. About time someone got something going for Training. Industry and employers are just not doing it. They would rather have cheap untrained Labour that they can lay off as soon as the job is done.

Years ago-like about 30-the BC Government had a labour law that labourers had to be in an Apprenticeship program by the time they had worked for Trades employers a certain amount of time or else they had to be paid the same wages.

This was the Bennett era-not an NDP proposal. The EI fund grew enormously in the last decade but there has been no money really earmarked for Training and Job developement.

Son is doing an Apprenticeship, and when he goes to school he does receive EI. On the otherhand he has to pay Tuition and pay for his Books. This was taken care of by the Apprenticeship Board or some Gov't Fund when husband was training. Also Son has Travel and Living out expenses.

Last year EnCana was advertising all accross the US for Trades people.

It would be interesting to know how the provided training in apprenticeships, for people in the labour market seeking to employ or persue a chosen occupation, will impact on employer hiring practices. While more are working in poverty, substantial income increases were gained by those at the top of the income hierarchy. Business conditions and Inability to find work at precarious employment, often in time limited contracts, ends up leaving workers in a dead end job. The training benefits, funded by gov't. are an indirect means to enhance corporate welfare to potential employers, thereby increasing employer bottom line profitability.

It will be interesting to see where Harper injects that 1 billion into the economy. Right wing fascists usually inject it into the upper private sector where it can be looted more efficiently. And like jjaycee98 says in the good old days (and they were very good compared to today) there were apprentiships and training even two years at community college was paid for by the people, that means the tax payer, like it bloody well should be.
