The epitome of bureaucratic incompetence. certainly after all these decades, you'd think well-educated Canadian diplomats would have been able to resolve the Hans Island dispute.

Would it really be that difficult to find an agreement? For example, just say that whichever country's land-mass the island nears the most (even if by a millimetre) owns the island.

If we have reason to want to maintain access to it, then just add that whatever country owns the island will recognize both the Canadian and Dutch passports as equal on that island.

I'm sure many other ways to come to an agreement exists. But that we're still disputing that island after all this times just shows the sheer incompetence of Canada's diplomatic corps (and Denmark's too of course).

Or better yet, w could just go by precedent:

'As such, Hans Island is technically located in both Danish and Canadian waters. World Atlas notes that the island was decided to be Danish territory by the Permanent Court of International Justice of the League of Nations in 1933.'

It's a rock in the Arctic after all.
