Even during a recession, and in true Canadian style, hockey fans in Calgary enthusiastically throw nearly 29,000 teddy bears onto the ice after Calgary Hitmen's first goal of the night, not only setting a new world record, but also sending both teddy bears and smiles to thousands of children this holiday season. Fans had to patiently wait for Calgary's first goal of the night, which didn't come until late in the second period, with less then three minutes on the clock. Although children and adults alike were anxious to throw their stuffed bears onto the ice, seeing this teddy bear tsunami and outpouring of love towards children across Alberta, was well worth the wait.
Even though Mental Loss takes great pleasure in Albertans losing their jobs and the economy tanking, you can't break the Albertan spirt.
