My 80 year old Dad is my hero...

Never drank much...never cheated...never raised a finger to Mom. Worked 60 hours a week to look after his 5 kids. Showed me the love of reading, sport, politics, current events...etc. Has always helped me out of trying situations in my adult years.

I've tried hard to live up to his standard with my own family. I think I'm doing okay because of the solid foundation he gave to me as a child.

So cheers, Pop! I'm the luckiest son in the world! I won the lottery when I got you for a Dad! Looking forward to watching Sunday's US Open with you tomorrow! :)

My fourteen year old son set his clothes on fire, today (accidentally) and he's lying in Sick Kids Hospital, right now with second degree burns to his thighs and a morphine drip to his veins.

That's where I'll be spending my Father's Day.

I'm sorry to hear that...

But for the grace of God go I. All of the crazy stunts I pulled in my youth, it's a miracle I'm still here typing this post.

I read once that Father's Day is the one day of the year that phone companies make the most money. It's all of the 'Daddy's little girls' of the world calling home collect to give their best wishes to their Pops.

Good parents you can never repay for all the things they do for you, with you, to you, and sometimes in spite of you. Best you can do is pay it forward, try to do as well by your own children.
