I dunno. never really did get the hang of CONservative-speak. here's the question he was answering...

Hon. Lucienne Robillard (Westmount—Ville-Marie said:
Mr. Speaker, Quebeckers, through their premier, Jean Charest, the Fédération des policiers municipaux du Québec and women's groups such as the Fédération des femmes du Québec are calling for the gun registry to be maintained intact.

Why is this Prime Minister, who heads a minority government, turning a deaf ear to Quebeckers' legitimate requests?

''There has been no shift in the attitudes of Canadians toward Canadian gun control. If anything, the resolve of Canadians is stronger than ever,'' Montreal Liberal MP Marlene Jennings said.

''The majority of Canadians and the majority of members of Parliament in this house want strong gun control. The prime minister has no mandate to weaken our gun control laws.''

The gun registry is just an expensive waste of time, it protects no one and it cannot track criminals using guns. I don't believe the government ever intended the registry to track the illegal use of weapons. This law was to get weapons off the streets and out of our homes to protect the politicians from an armed population in the future, this registry was only the first step.

If I may join the fray.I will quote Paul Martin, talking to Mansbridge,Town Hall January 2006. " We are largely dealing with hunters, farmers, honest people, who don't intend to use thier guns for any other reason except hunting or the uses that a farmer may have." This is why we spent 2 billion dollars. Case closed, discussion over. The gun registry was never meant to do anything other than allay fears in suburbia.

Yeah, I think that's it exactly. It was a sop to certain big city folks in southern Ontario and Quebec (where most of the votes are, alas) who know nothing about guns, don't want to know anything about guns, have no clue what the world is like outside the cities they live in, and believe nobody but police and the military should have any guns. They don't really know what guns are, they seem to think they're just devices for killing other people. It's beyond their comprehension that a gun can be a useful or necessary tool in some circumstances. They should all spend a year living in bear and cougar country, like British Columbia's Slocan Valley, and be made to take long walks alone at night...

Guns will always be used in killing from a safe distance whether they be unlawful killings or those done by law enforcement. But guns are here to stay because nobody has thought of anything more accurate.

The difference between what we accept as "killing machines" such as cars and boats and booze, etc., are regulated and because of the laws and
examinations I think they are more "respected".

Guns and the lawful or unlawful possession of them don't bring respect at all. Very few people reveal if they have a personal firearm at home and if they have had valid lessons in the use of them or the care and maintenance of them and where they should be lodged within a private home or business.

Teach respect for a weapon and the misuse will go down.

I could'nt have said it better myself... I'm not very fond of guns and I like it that people are being tested before they were given any firearms because we have to admit that there will always be people who will be using guns to intimidate and harm other people. I am sure that the people in this forum are intelligent and human enough not to do this but well... There will always be people who have to spoil things for everybody...
