I've run across it many times. It is a purposeful ignorance for the sake of entertainment.

Funny, that forum was the first time I was exposed to a massive dose of it. I couldn't stand it, spoke up against it, and was amazed at the viciousness of the responding attacks. It was fun, in a gory Revenge of the Rabid Republicans sort of way.

I'm afraid what will happen with the global environment if we all go on like this. Already 4,000 people in the Netherlands die of the "dirty air" here each year . And as a low country, we fear what will happen when the poles melt and the sea-level rises. 40% of the Netherlands is below sea-level, go figure. Dikes and sand dunes can not protect us if the sea-level rises dramatically ...

Oh, I can send you to some places where you will be viciously attacked for suggesting that properly insulating your house will save you money. It gets old pretty damned quick.

The Netherlands, Bangladesh, and (fittingly enough) Florida are going to be seeing some very hard times because of global warming. The people in northern Canada and little islands like Tuvalu are already seeing those hard times.

It sure does get old in a hurry, and that's why I signed off. It was so vile in there that I haven't even been tempted to stop by to see how things are going with them. Know what's weird? The secretaries, nurses, and other support workers were fine... just the professionals were nasty as all hell. Makes me think about that whenever I need to see a professional in that particular field.

Hmmm...I never really thought of it like that, but now that you mention it that's pretty much what I've found too.
