RE: Go home Yanks, says P

The Americans aren't going to pull out in the political (as opposed to the military) sense unless they are forced to, Jay. There is too much at stake.

The US has planned long-term military bases in Iraq since the beginning because it gives them a base in the Middle East.

The US wants control of Iraqi oil not just for their own use, but for economic and military reasons of strategy.

The US needs another friendly voice in OPEC. If it wasn't for Saudi Arabia OPEC would have switched to the Euro already. That would likely throw the US dollar into a freefall.

I also believe they are diving in as deep as they can into old Stalinist territory. Russia used to hold the influence in that part of the world, under Saddam that is.

America might just be happy to get the troops home. This "threat" by the PM in waiting may be a bit of a scam then.
After all, if the U.S. contractors get their oil flowing to America, thats the point, and the military occupation is no longer needed. The U.S. forces have weakened Iraqis enough now, chaos is in place and opportunity comes from chaos.
Security will be an issue for oilmen there, but in all likelyhood, the Shiite PM-in-waiting of Iraq has been placed there by America and he will provide that security.
Remember, this was all about oil. Islamic genocide is just a side benefit to the Baby Bush Christian Right .

Some of you people will say almost anything. Karlin, ever think about running for one of the Liberal Parties in Canada?
