ABIDJAN (Reuters) - Poor punctuality is such a brake on Ivory Coast's economic development that the West African country has come up with a novel way to combat tardiness: win a house if you demonstrate you can turn up on time.

I've heard that culturally the value of money isn't nearly what we in the west consider. I suppose African time does help on a global economic scale.

Pitched with the slogan "'African time' is killing Africa, let's fight it," its organizers hope to heighten awareness of how missed appointments, meetings or even late buses cut productivity in a region where languid tardiness is the norm.

I've heard of manana time when I was in Mexico ... maybe anywhere it's hot folks just are more laid back. Don't know that it's such a bad idea, really! Would be interesting to check the hypertension rates.

Well it's as hot as hades here today, we may as well be in Africa. You do realize this time last year it was snowing in Ontario. I am seriously, seriouly considering putting on the AC. No wonder they don't know what a time constraint is. My brain feels all befuddled.

Man, lucky you. I just turned by gas fireplace on so I can get over hypothermia. It has rained cats, dogs, bears, and cattle this last week on Vancouver Island.

LOL ... so true! And despite all the livestock, my dog refuses to get her little feeties wet. She looks like a beaten hound when I make her go outside in this. Unfortunately, though, she bounces off the walls when she doesn't go out and get exercise!

Backwater, Ontario.
Getting damp, cool, and wet here, now.

Looks like fears of a drought  (Rideau Valley Conservation Authority panic department) are groundless now. Supposed to rain for the next few and then turn colder. Bout time.

Ah me; storm window time (still have em), put away all the summer stuff and bring out all the winter stuff. Gettin ready:angry3:

Hey Kreskin!!! (sorry, had to get your attention)........How do you like the gas fireplace?. We wuz thinkin of getting rid of the wood airtight, and getting a free standing propane thingy just for a backup in case the power goes off (again:-() or for when she dips to -30 or so (which it's gonna).

Way back during the ice storm we used the wood burner 24/7, and cured all me fond thoughts of the "goodldays".........what a pain in the butt.................

Anyways, how do you like the gas thing? eh?

:eek:ccasion5:
