Giambrone, a former Toronto councillor, TTC chair and mayoral hopeful who quit after a scandal in last year’s municipal election campaign, would only say it’s “not a public event,” but confirmed he’ll be a married man soon. The wedding is scheduled for the last week of November at One King West, the iconic downtown hotel.
Joe Pantalone, former deputy mayor of Toronto and a friend of Giambrone, said the couple is deeply in love.
“It’s obviously a relationship that has endured and has gone through challenges . . . and it shows they belong together,” he said.
The greatest challenge occurred 18 months ago, after Giambrone announced his candidacy for mayor. The Star revealed he had an intimate relationship with university student Kristen Lucas and had suggested to her in a text message that McQuarrie, his live-in partner for the last five years, was in his life for “political” reasons.
“It was important for the campaign,” one text message said.
Lucas, who then produced copies of extensive texting and Facebook correspondence with Giambrone, said they had an intimate relationship that began when she was 19 and included sex on a couch in his City Hall office.
After public denials, Giambrone, 33, finally acknowledged an inappropriate relationship with Lucas. A day later, he admitted to having “intimate relations” with multiple women.
