Free the Garth Blog!!

Garth Turner had been the most vocal of the Conservatives over the defection of David Emerson to Harper's cabinet. His public statements concerning that issue were on Garth's blog. That blog is now not working, I tried several links to it and although one page did open, it was later not opening anymore. They are killing them as fast as they can... someone is working hard at this task right now.

Emerson's riding constituents are still demanding a recall... so that issue wasn't without merit or support from the public. Harper's open arms to a genuine defector-without-principles where the constituents are crying foul by being handed a Tory representitive when they voted Liberal was a very un-democratic move on Harper's part.

Also, now that I cannot seem to access much of what Garth Turner was saying because of his blog being shut down, I think it is fair to say that Harper is being very un-democratic.

But who closes down any public media that might give Canadians their own chance to review the writings of Garth Turner? Who can get internet links severed like this? We thought it was a free-for-all internet, but apparently these kinds of actions are easily undertaken.

Really, is there any doubt that this closure of Garth Turner's website was done with the okay of the Prime Minister of Canada?

This being the case, Harper is "fully disclosed" now as another conservative autocrat who will use his powers to reduce our cherished democratic principles to nothing.

Ok, I can admit when I get it wrong, when I jump to conclusions - Garth Turner's blog is back up online today, and it was likel;y "heavy traffic" that stopped me yesterday.

www.garth.ca will get you there now...

I would take this opportunity to quote what Garth said about the Clean Ari Act [before it was unveiled today] -
"My position is when the Harper administration releases its plan it will be that climate change is the greatest all-round threat this country faces, and that my government should not let us down with half-measures, a curtsy to junk science or a sell-out to the tar sands" [not an exact quote -K ]

So that got him kicked out, not the Emerson thing. A blog I read suggested that it was Garth's cuddling up to Elizabeth May of the Green Party that really did it. She has said that it would be easier to get a sitting Member of Parliament to turn Green than to get one elected in the "first past the post system" Canada uses.

Harper doesn't, appear to, allow his Party Members to speak or be heard. I don't like Party puppets and that is what Harper has put in positions of power. These MPs should remember we the people elect them to represent us and not the other way around. I want my MP speaking up regarding issues that effect me, if I want a puppet to represent me I'll pick Elmo cause he makes me smile. This could bite Harper in the bum me thinks.

I have posted on another thread but will continue here....

I hate that we have become a system of one person telling all members what to do. I'm no fan of Garth but he was elected to be Garth!!

We don't vote for leaders of a party so why should leaders control the party???

If we want that much power in a leader, lets elect P.M.'s directly and then vote for the senate to keep him reined in....

The Liberals started the all powerful leader approach and the conservatives are continuing it!!

Maybe I should start the "vote for anyone but I get the say party"

Elmo party of Canada...I'd register that if I were you!!

Yep Elmo's cute and Harper has a head the size of a giant Pumkin. He's seems to be a control freak, he doesn't appear to care if Canadians want MP input on the hill. What's next secret meetings so "We" the little people won't be bothered with the running of Canada? I loathe Politicians and their lofty lack of ideals.

Harpers popularity continues to drop, and this certainly won't help. The constituent comes first, then the party. In this case, Turner is correct.

Garth Turner is my MP and I still support him. He has proven to me and the rest of our riding that he is more interested in doing his best to represent all of his constuents(sp?), like all mps should, then simply following the party line or pushing an idololgy. I think it says a lot about these conservatives that harper has had the only real internal critic.

I will voting for him in the next elections where ever he chooses to go.

not in Kansas anymore
Turner was turfed because he was posting details of caucus meetings. Whether or not you agree with the secrecy of caucus is irrelevant ,if you attend you agree not to divulge what goes on there. It was not Harper's decision but the Ontario wing of the party who could not trust him anymore. Of course the libs and ndp would never ever turf one of thier members for a breach of thier rules. I am surprised Bush hasn't been brought into the fray yet.

Well since you mentioned it, my bush out front is dying? Is it the Libs fault or the Cons? Maybe the NDP put suger in the soil? Harper is a control freak, I'm not LIb or Con but even I can see where he is heading with gagging his MP's. Note: we voted for representation in Ottawa, and gagging an MP is not what I want. If he is cowering in fear now what will the future hold under the Con rule? I don't like what I'm hearing, I'd like to see more but Harper is afraid of the Media.

Is there any proof of this? I know someone mentioned he posted confidential information back in May...is that why they threw him out 5 months later?

I sent Garth a letter of support today.

I wish more of our MP's were like him not mindless Back benchers! Harper made alot of promises I liked and ended up turing his back on hisprincibals the day after he got elected.

Normally I do not support crossing the floor. But truly this is not crossing the floor as Garth didn't leave the Conservative party he was tossed out for sticking up for what he was elected to do and what he believes to be right. Just like how that NDPer got tossed out in the last house for being against same sex marrage. I think for him to join the Green party would be to open a new chapter in Canadian politics I do not support the Green party, but this isn't the point. I support Garth 110% for sticking up for what he believes in and to what he has supported all along!

Your lucky you have a good MP. I'd vote for him no matter what party he belonged to, as well. If he goes back to the conservative, Liberal, NDP or Green. You know you are voting for someone who will stick up for you and his beliefs and not be just a silent back bencher or a dogmatic follower of the party line. You are very lucky!!!

My MP is Ken Dryden..... I'm not lucky.
