‘Fundamentalist’ popularity grows with the chaos in the street. Church and state, which have been inseparable throughout history (witness Billy Graham blessing missiles during the Gulf War) are trying desperately to reassert their
authority. Those who have the most to lose in power and material possessions are uniting behind the veil of religion to support the oppressions of the have-nots.
It is quite ironic that the so-called fundamentalist movements, whether Christian or Muslim, bear little resemblance to the spirit of the original teachings. Both promote spiritual egotism, separation, superiority and contempt for all beliefs and people that do not agree with their particular point of view.
The concept that salvation lies in the dogmatic acceptance of one doctrine while condemning all others as misguided or evil is used to divide and conquer. While we are fighting over who is right or wrong those in control can go about their power games without interference from pesky little carbon based units.

Fundamentalism is fundamentally wrong.
