Why did the USA not get rid of the Vietcong after all those years of occupation? Why did the USA not get rid of the insurgents in Iraq after all those years of occupation? Why did the USA not end the warlord threat in Somalia. If anything it was even worse when they left than when they entered. Why did the Russians not get rid of the Chechen terrorist groups during all those years of occupation? Oopsy. This last does not count since Chechnya is officially Russian territory therefore the Russians 'occupy' nothing but their own land.

You claim to be uncertain as to where your loyalties lie - Lebanon or Canada. I could solve this problem for you. Purchase for yourself an airline ticket and get the *censored* out of my country. I am tired of people with divided loyalties living in Canada. You are either Canadian or Lebanese. You cannot be both. Stay and be 100% Canadian or leave and be 100% Lebanese. No 50-50 bullshit. This is my country and I want Canadians to be Canadians. No semi-Canadians if you please. I love my country with all of my nationalistic fervor and I would beg of you to leave if you do not share my love of Canada.

So, if you had to settle in Britain, and spend a few years there. Would you totally ditch Canada, then? Your loyalties would lie with both Canada and Britain, right?

Canadians are Canadians. If a person is loyal to Canada he is Canadian. Thats it. He/she could be Lebanese Canadian, Indo Canadian, Italian Canadian or whatever..

For you to tell him to leave Canada is quite trashy, actually. I am a Canadian myself and I am happy that I dont hang around people who think like you do. You are a shame to Canada, and thank God most Canadians are not like you.

Before 2000, when Israel left lebanon, Hezbollah was a simple resistance movement to the occupation. As such, deeply embedded in the local population, it was impossible to eliminate. At the same time, as a simple resistence movement, Hezbollah had no bases, no missiles, no large, offensive military assets. It could do little damage.....shoot a soldier here or there, send a suicide bomber.

Since 2000, Hezbollah has built a huge military machine capable of carrying the fight into Israel proper. In fact, they are the FIFTH laqrgest military entity in the ME. (That's what $100 million a year from Iran will do for you) As such, they are a severe threat to Israel, and, as such they present a target that is MUCH easier to hit.

Israel is not under the delusion that it can completely destroy Hezbollah. That is one of the reasons they want the Lebanese Army, NOT the Israeli Army, to occupy the south of that country.

What Israel CAN do is degrade Hezbollah's ability to strike into Israel by destroying large military assets such as missile launchers, kill its leaders, and hopefully disenchant the Shia Muslims who see Hezbollah as their "protectors".

But it can't be what I used to call a "Beirut Ceasefire "AKA a pause to reload

right

bad then, worse now but somehow its the rest of Lebanon's fault.

"simple resistance movement"???

where do you get this stuff from?

Taheri

Arab and western experts concur that Hezbollah’s militia is a stronger fighting force than the Lebanese army that is supposed to disarm it under United Nations resolution 1559. Also, most soldiers in the official Lebanese army are Shi’ites who would balk at fighting their own.

bang bang

Exactly.

This is how huge Hezbollah has grown on Iran's money since Israel left Lebanon, (and left Hezbollah in peace) in 2000.

Thanks for making my point.

What would be the acceptable amount of dead Israelis before they had the right to respond?

Israel has always responded to attacks with overwhelming force. That is how it survives.
