George H.W. Bush dead at 94



Former US President George H.W. Bush has died at age 94 in Houston, according to his spokesperson Jim McGrath.

Born into privilege and a tradition of service, Bush was a son of a senator, celebrated World War II combat pilot, student athlete, Texas oilman, Republican congressman, national party chairman, pioneering diplomat and spy chief. After his own 1980 presidential campaign came up short, he served two terms as Ronald Reagan's vice president before reaching the pinnacle of political power by winning the 1988 presidential election, soundly defeating Democrat Michael Dukakis.

The first sitting vice president to be elected to the presidency since 1836, Bush was also only the second person in US history to see his own son follow in his presidential footsteps when George W. Bush was elected in 2000.

Tell you what, RCS. Here's a relatively little-known fact about Bush.

On the mission where he was shot down, he was flying a three-man torpedo bomber. His target was a radio tower on a Japanese-held island in the Pacific, heavily defended. His plane was hit as they went in, and shot up bad, he finished the run and took out the tower before he ordered his men to bail.

That's balls.

This is what kind of a man George H.W. Bush was:

"On Jan. 20, 1993, I entered the Oval Office for the first time as president. As is the tradition, waiting for me was a note from my predecessor, George Herbert Walker Bush. It read:

Dear Bill,

When I walked into this office just now I felt the same sense of wonder and respect that I felt four years ago. I know you will feel that, too.

I wish you great happiness here. I never felt the loneliness some Presidents have described.

There will be very tough times, made even more difficult by criticism you may not think is fair. I’m not a very good one to give advice; but just don’t let the critics discourage you or push you off course.

You will be our President when you read this note. I wish you well. I wish your family well.

Your success now is our country’s success. I am rooting hard for you.

I liked Bush Sr. He was a kind and gentle man, just like his vision for his country. I thought he did a marvelous job on Gulf War I. RIP.

What a gentle, caring man. Imagine a Commissioned US Naval Officer at 18 years of age and a Aviator. Shot down in the Pacific and saved by a US Navy submarine crew. Then look at his public service record. Remarakble man with a wonderful life's story. RIP President Bush!
