I'm still waffelling. I have been a mostly Liberal supporter in the past, even being a card carrying Liberal (literally). But in the past, I have voted Reform and NDP (the distant pass).

With that said.... I'm sortof leaning towards the PC party now.

I guess let's see what the other guy has to offer, and if we don't like it, we can vote them out.

But I have not made 100% decision yet. I might still vote Liberal...

If I had to choose an issue that the Conservatives swayed me on was the issue of Crime, followed by Taxes.

If i had to choose an issue that the Liberals sway me is their social policy relitive to the Conservatives.

With the Cons, i would probably be most directy affected because if they win, more than likely he will give the green flag to bank mergers, which would directly affect my job. (I work under the BMO umbrella..and I am certain that BMO will merge with RBC).

So that is why for the first time in a while, I am having a second and third look at the Conservative.

But i fundamentally disagree on many social issues....

Well we could use your vote in Edmonton, seems there are a few ridings that might be close. I believe there are many in the same boat as you are...not particularly keen Tory supporters but are looking for a change after soo many years of 1 party rule. I really look at how the country would function after the 23rd if the Liberals squeaked by again. I really beleive it would be bad for national unity especially in Quebec, and the west will become more aggrivated. The way I see it, how will you know if you never give another party a chance.

"The way I see it, how will you know if you never give another party a chance. "

isn't that exactly what Jack Layton has been saying?

yes, and if you are on the far left-wing or the political spectrum you should feel liberated that you don't need to vote for the crooks anymore....you can now vote the way you want. Frankly although Layton should never get in control of the countries finances, I belive that the NDP deserves more seats at the expense of the Liberals.

Caracal Kid, the NDP is not even on my radar..... the one riding they even remotely have a chance in Alberta is composed primarily of University students and tree huggers. LOL. (Edmonton-Strathcona).

Hank, yah..thats pretty much what I face.

See, the thing that most Liberals in other provinces don't understand is that to even Liberal supporters in Alberta, the PC party has never seemed "scary" to us. We are so use to Conservative ideology that even if we don't fundamentally agree with it, its there and it doesnt bother us either. Call it conservative apathy if you will.

I think its not the scandles or anything that has ever upset me..its that its been 13 years...hell, people go through cars faster than we go through governments in Canada. It would be nice to get a new car so to speak just to see how it runs.

I agree. The NDP does not have a balanced fiscal plan.

Unfortunately, neither do the cons or libs!

Harper the "economist" seems to have missed econ101, and the fiscal track record of Martin went out the window in his efforts to spend his way back.

Sadly, playing the populist works for these opportunists.

The way I see it is this will be a minority conservative government and so social issues will not be a factor as they are too divisive. I don’t agree with any of the conservative social agenda and so am in the same boat as some here. For me it is anti-corruption, better economic policies for Canada and really a much more savvy business sense. The conservatives seem ready to deliver here.

I just can’t buy that the Canadian way is to be corrupt, inept, dysfunctional and whiny. Canada is heading in a new direction and at this point we have to trust the conservatives to lead us out of the wilderness. It is a massive amount of trust we have to put on Stephen Harper but at this point we have no one else. My gut feeling is that he will rise to the occasion.

haha....yes that is the riding Layton is talking about taking in Alberta although I highly doubt the hippies and tree huggin university students will be able to seal the riding.

....Dani if that is you riding, we really need your vote this time round.

At least we know members of this board will vote!

There was a letter in today's Journal and the writer takes the view that both parties are middle of the road; there will be no extreme charges to anything, regardless of who gets in. The Journal liked it so, it got published.

I am not of that mind. The Conservatives have put themselves in a position of extreme action or face the wrath of their support! I believe there is so much pressure on the political system to move towards the World Trade Organization position.

The Fraser Institute and their austere members such as Mr. Manning have played a large part in his election as has the right wing press. All of these supporters want pay back!

The only way to get the programs into place is to change the charter of rights and freedoms and change the Canada Health Act. The latter I think is also on the agenda for Mr. Martin.

I do believe the predictions I have made will all come full force before the Conservative term is out. That is all that is needed for Ralph Klein (slated to become Senator Klein courtesy of Harper) needs to complete the rape of this Province.

Universality if Harper is elected is gone and the Governments will defer to insurance companies decisions and policies as a way to escape criticism.

I ususally vote "anybody-but-the-Liberals".... so that's as far as I've gotten on my decision.

Well not quite, last weekend I actually sat down and read all of the party platforms, cover to cover (took a little time).

I have to say I'm really impressed with the green party platform, it's well thought out, consistent and has connections throughout.

The other platforms you can really tell that they are written as the campaign goes along and are strongly based on polls, there were a lot of sections where you could tell that something polled well so all of a sudden it was dropped in somewhere.

That being said I thought the conservative platform is very poorly put together. I think they should be thankful that most people don't read the whole thing.

The Liberals have a great PR team writing their platform but don't actually say much (nothing new there).

The NDP does a respectable job in their platform but are really lacking on any hard-claims that could be backed up. I also think they are over ambitious for 5 years.... and I was looking for this environmental platform that was supposed to be better than the Green Party platform, because the NDP one is endorsed by Greenpeace and the Sierra club.... I was really dissapointed it's very short and non-commital.

You have hit it on the head my friend! "How I feel"

One can't cure an emotional situation with reason nor can they cure a reasonable problem with emotion!

Pundits of the day called the Vietnam war an emotional response to a reasonable situation.
