JUNE 14--In a development that should concern boy lovers everywhere, FBI agents last month recovered a “membership list” for the North American Man/Boy Love Association during the course of an investigation of a New York man now facing a child pornography charge.

The NAMBLA list was found during a May 23 search of a Honda Accord owned by Philip Godek, a 57-year-old Long Island resident.

Named that day in a U.S. District Court complaint accusing him of possessing illicit images of minors, Godek has been jailed pending trial on the felony count.

The investigation of Godek began when his landlords contacted the FBI to report the discovery of child porn in the Nesconset apartment they had rented to the suspect. The landlords, who entered Godek’s home in response to an alarm, spotted “what appeared to be computer printouts of child pornography images around the apartment,” according to an affidavit sworn by FBI Agent Danielle Messineo.

They actually keep a membership list? Wow.
NAMBLA is a lobby group in the States. It's not just some group of covert diddlers.

It's membership isn't exactly a secret.

These are clearly some of the sharpest knives in the drawer.
Although the premise of the groups existence is beyond contemptible to me. Their right to speak and lobby is an excellent case study on the Constitutional rights of free speech, and freedom of association.

One of the last things I would have expected, is for this group to have a membership list anywhere. Just the membership by it's self is
saying, "I like it with young boys". Bear, you are kinder than I could be. My first impulse would be to publish the damn list.

I'm sure if one were compelled to do the work, you could actually find a substantial list on line.

Even wiki has a list of notable members.

And please don't confuse my commentary as kind, it's simply just factual. I have nothing but contempt for the group and it's premise.

But I fully support their rights to lobby and speak.

I wonder if Barney Frank and Mark Leno (California legislature) names are still on the "Active Member" list?

I sincerely hope that they monitor all of the E-Mail and Internet connections of every member of that organization.

Now, I wonder if there is a NAMGLA group (North American Man Girl Love Association)? Want to bet that if any group advocated for sexual contact between adult men and underage girls existed, they would be driven out of existence?

I am all in favor of freedom of speech, but I find this group to be absolutely disgusting.

Maybe it's because the FBI busted an undercover op that was collecting names. As an earlier poster noted, they'd have to be (pea)nuts to keep a membership list, which means if nothing is heard about it after this, that implies it was a gaff, with lack of inter-agency communication which Homeland Security was supposed to address.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing when I came in here. Then I noticed that the guy was printing out child pornography, and I thought to myself, who prints out pornography from the computer? Let alone child pornography.

IMHO, a deviant. I would say the whole of the membership are, to some extent or another.

I think it's great that they keep a membership list. Helps the authorities know what sicko's they need to be keeping an eye on.

Could that be considered profiling?

Profiling in and of itself is not a bad thing. Law enforcement uses behavioural profiling all the time to both solve crimes and prevent crime from occurring.

But bottom line is, I don't really care in this instance. I don't care how hypocritical it may sound, but I really couldn't give a rat's ass about their rights. I just don't.

Let them have their little clubs, just keep them away from the frigging kids.

I would never go so far as to advocate against the right of anyone to associate or speak their thoughts, even theirs. I do recognize that is far more dangerous in the end despite how abhorrent I personally find them to be.

However, their very existence, what they propose to want to do, infringes upon the rights, safety and security of some of the most vulnerable members of society. So I'm not about to give them any kind of leeway, no benefit of any doubt.

It's just one of those situations where the principles that I hold in high regard are severely tested.

SLM, you don't have to justify your position to me. Having an excellent grasp of who you are, I fully understand where you are on this. You aren't a hypocrite in the philosophical sense, like so many of the frauds that lie their way though threads and thump their chests on this board.
