News of Vancouver removing 50 tonnes of fatbergs from their sewer system is a bit surprising to me. I've heard they have the same issue in London but call it a different name.

Years ago there was a nationwide Mr Fixit radio program I think came out of the Vancouver area. Household tips were part of the show. Pretty sure I heard it there but the tip is to use a little tin foil to line the sink drain and pour the hot grease there until it cools and can be thrown in the garbage. Not rocket science. I'm not a big bacon guy but use the system when I do with no problems so far.

We use a glass mason jar. The grease can be poured into it, then it cools in the jar into a solid that can be lidded & kept in the fridge…& we can reuse that same grease/oil when cooking a different meal and it already carries the seasoning from other cooking adventures.

It ends up being a mixture of olive oil and canola oil and bacon grease and so on and so forth…absolutely packed with flavour. Why dump this resource down the drain?

When needed, 30 seconds in the microwave with that mason jar (metal lid off) & it pours out as a liquid.
