That is the problem with most religious books such as Bible or Koran, they are very amorphous in nature, they say contradictory things at the same time. People don’t read the Bible and then decide what to believe, they read their own prejudices, their own biases into the Bible.
Thus, is Bible pro choice or pro life? There are Christians who are pro choice and Christians who are pro life. Who decides what the Bible says, who is the ultimate authority in deciding the word of God?
Is it OK for women to work outside home? What does Bible say? There are arguments on both sides. What about gay rights? Is Bible anti-homosexuality or is it not? There is the Metropolitan Community Church, which is Church founded by gays and consists of gays and gay sympathizers. Is that a Christian church or are they a bunch of blasphemers? Who decides?
So saying that one should obey the word of God means absolutely nothing. Word of God means what one wants it to mean. Word of God is pro choice and pro life. Word of God says homosexuality is an abomination and also that homosexuals are God’s creatures. ‘Love thy neighbour’ and ‘Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live’ (both direct quotes from the bible). Word of God says that earth was created 5000 years ago in six days (Fundamentalist belief) and that world was created by evolution (Catholic belief).
Word of God is meaningless.
