British rock band, Blood Retch, from Wales, apparently caused a suicide - the band's own lead singer...

'Evil' music blamed for suicide

Gareth Bonetto, 29, was the singer with Blood Retch

The father of a heavy metal rock singer who killed himself has blamed the band's "dark and evil" music for his suicide.

Gareth Bonetto, 29, was known as Mad Eddie Richards in his role as singer with Pontypridd band Blood Retch.

He hanged himself in March after weeks of hospital psychiatric treatment.

His father Lawrence told an inquest in Merthyr Tydfil it was as though his son was "two different people" when he was in the band.

The inquest was told Gareth Bonetto formed the death metal band Blood Retch in 2002.

His music was dark and evil and it did for him

The band had played across the UK and Europe and their debut album Pain is My Weakness included songs with titles including The End, My Time has Come and Demons.

Lawrence Bonetto told the inquest: "When he was playing with the band it was as if my son was two different people - he took on the persona of Mad Eddie.

"His music was dark and evil and it did for him."

The band's website listed Mad Eddie's likes as "burgers, Satan, money, wrestling and porn".

His dislikes included "everybody" and he said he was "looking forward to destroying the world".

The inquest was told that that shortly before his death in March this year, Mr Bonetto had damaged his flat and cut off his shoulder-length hair.

He was given psychiatric treatment but was released home after four weeks in hospital.

Police discovered the musician hanging from a belt at his home in Nantgarw, near Cardiff, after the alarm was raised by his sister.

The inquest was told that Blood Retch have continued playing since Mr Bonetto's death and have dedicated a song called Soviet in his honour.

A verdict of suicide was recorded.

If music was really at fault wouldn't you see huge piles of bodies at the mall. man that nauseating pop/soft rock/easy listening/elevator music compilation they have playing makes sane men burst into tears. it hasn't gotten better now that christmas tunes play all the time, 24/7. man if i hear one more 'jingle bell rock' i might snap and go postal in the food court. hey wait a minute maybe there is something to this theory of music influencing bahavour after all.

DAMN YOU YANNI! DAMN YOU!

I don't suppose the father could ever consider that the music was an expression of his own feelings.

Well adjusted, relaxed people don't make this kind of music. That's the joy of artistry - often, it's a way for tormented minds to express themselves. The music is a product of the mind, not the other way around.

PEI...for now
That's it. If I ever had to knock myself off, I'm going to leave a note blaming it all on SpongeBob Squarepants. It'd be too bad I'd miss watching people jump on that one.

A taxi driver told me that he always puts dreary,"easy listening" cack in the CD player when he picks people up from clubs, late on Friday and Saturday nights. He says groups of rowdy, aggresive, testosterone and alcohol-fueled lads will calm down within minutes of getting in his cab. The police here have actually recommended that pubs and clubs put the same sort of dreary muzack on at the end of the night, claiming it calms people down and lessens violent outbursts. :p
