Hey, Finder, cheer up, it could happen! =)

And in order to have a party in the House recognized, don't they need a minimum number of seats? Or am I thinking about being recognized as the Opposition?

yup I believe it's still 13.... or is it 12.

Yeah thats why voting in one or two members would be a waste at a lose of a NDP canadate or any other. The member would not be able to speak out for native rights. only vote. Unless he begged time from one of the parties to have some of there time. But that rarely happens

Oh and the NDP are unlucky. They keep losing so many ridings by a couple hundred votes. =-( When I watched last election and they had about 32 at one point near the end of the night. I went to bed around 12 oclock when they had hit 27 thinking it couldn't get any worse. wooo I was wrong. 19! They lost more then half. Plus so many other ridings which were close calls for them. =-(

You have to have 12 seats to be recognized as a party in the House.

crap, cause i got family in Sask and i was living there last year so if needed would cast my vote in sask. I think they are in the blackstrap region though, i gotta check.

i cant belive i cast a liberal vote there last year.......people are soo dumb when they are 19 Embarassed

I haven't checked, but I believe Blackstrap is pretty much solid Conservative. Still, any vote anywhere is worth money to the party it's cast for and the popular vote and the discrepancies between it and the number of seats is what's driving the push for PR.

Yeah, your vote counts for $1.75. If everybody looks at it and figures that it doesn't matter because it's only the price of a coffee and their party is never going to win, then it costs the parties millions. If everybody who says, "I like the NDP but I'm not going to bother voting or will vote for somebody else because they never win," would get off their asses and go vote for the NDP, the NDP would have a hell of a lot more seats.

While we're at it, if you have a few bucks to spare, send it to the political party of your choice. That's doubly true if you support one of the parties without corporate backing or the support of wealthy pressure groups.

I'm forbidden to gamble on politics and eight ball. Snooker is still kind of a grey area though. :D

Like the snooker player said, looking at his naked girlfriend, splayed out on the bed waiting for him: "Can't decide whether to go for the pink or the brown...."

Reverend Blair, I could care less about getting the NDP another 1.75, I'd rather my vote count. I'm going to vote this election, but thats out of pure passion for politics. I'm going to go out in a riding where the Liberal will win, most likely with a real magority too, and vote NDP and waste my vote. I will have accomplished nothing this election by voting, besides a 1.75 to the NDP. I should just send them a toonie in the mail and not vote.

What we really need is electoral reform! So that everyone vote actually does count for something more then 1.75

Party Funding

Yesterday, on CPAC, speaking with Alberta NDP candidate Mr. Chan, he stated that every vote for the NDP helps them immensely with the next election; since they don't have corporate funding, that $1.75 is apparently invaluable.

Where did you hear they don't get corporate funding? The NDP also gets funding from the big unions.

The party that raises most of it's cash from individual donors is the Conservatives.

Show me evidence that they have corporate funding. I agree that they get union funding, no doubt, but wouldn't corporations be a bit afraid of the NDP system or policies that they sprout. If they are afraid why would they give them money?

Contact the NDP Party and they will send you a list of their corporte donors. Do you even know what a corporation is? There's a good chance that your doctor has incorporated his practice...as has the guy who runs the corner store ..as is the accountant that is auditing your party riding's donations and chips in his time as a deductable expense off his 'corporate' earnings.

There is a reason why it's the Conservatives who push hardest for electoral reform and for excluding corporate and union donations. The conservatives have a wide base of personal donators, especially in rural Canada who faithfully give to the party. the liberals, in contrast are much more corporte dependent and the NDP varies up and down on the whim of how generous the unions want to be.

I was only citing what Mr. Chan, an NDP candidate in Alberta, had asserted during an episode of Campaign Politics on CPAC. He asserted that in the absence of corporate funding, the NDP depends heavily on the funds allocated through individual votes.
