I know it's just a small town but it appears corruption may be everywhere.
The Edson town council is about to sell off the Rec complex for a rumored $300,000. This is a far cry from the 2017 assessment of $3.45 million. Their excuse is the building needs $1.5 million in repairs and upgrades and has been reassessed at $1.99 million. Somehow they think they should sell it for over $1.5 million below the new assessment which accounts for the required work. The other shady part of this deal is that the facility was never for sale. The story is the town was approached by an interested party who made an offer. I personally have never heard of anyone just walking into a municipal government office and asking if they could buy a building at 10 cents on the dollar. In their wisdom the town council is rushing this deal through (it requires a 60 day period for petition under the MGA). They will vote on acceptance of the offer on Oct 11 which is less than 30 days after the announcement and a mere 5 days before the town elections.
