I seem to have memories of this being an event with all kinds of public ceremonies, documentary specials, political grandstanding. Now it seems to have diminished to an afterthought in the evening news. The only documentary i saw was on PBS (of course), a retrospective of the event, keying in on its aging founders and old war stories.

Could be the radical environmentalists, have so alienated the general public, with their anti population, industry and job destroying agendas, anthropocentric global warming and other hoaxes, insipid 'mother earth' mythologies, that people just couldn't be bothered with them anymore. They have lost all credibility and sympathy.

Let them go out hug their trees and commune with the wilderness while the rest of us get on with real life.
