NEW DELHI (Reuters) - Indian men cannot be trusted in their sexual behavior and are fuelling the country's HIV epidemic, a female government minister said Monday, slamming the country's "hypocrisy" about sex.

She speaks the truth that women can't trust someone else to keep them healthy. It's unfortunate, but it's the reality. She also speaks the truth when she says societal attitudes which keep women powerless in negotiating sexual practices need to change if they want to decrease the spread of HIV in their country.

I'd hazard to say that humans can't trust others to keep them healthy, not just women. Men aren't the only ones who have affairs, even in countries like India

They have contraceptives in India... of course one problem is, and this isn't racism this is true, is that international standard condom sizes are too big for Indian men. Buying condoms is embarassing enough without needing to ask for "the small size".

lemme see if I can find a link

They aren't the only ones, but I'd guess it's a lot more common. There aren't a lot of male prostitutes spreading HIV to their female customers who then take it home to their husbands as far as I know.

No, but are their boyfriends HIV negative? Surely frequenting prostitutes isn't the only way to catch HIV.

I don't think she needs to tell people they can get HIV from anyone. The point I thought she was making was telling women that being monogomous to their husbands doesn't protect them as long as their husbands are not being monogomous. Judging by the sex trade in India (one of the bigget problems in the spread of HIV in that country), what she's saying is certainly something they should consider.

I realize women are probably cheating too, but those men are probably able to insist on condom use if they want to. The problem is women in many countries can't.

Did you think I hadn't understood what she was saying?
