I voted for “Yes, He was a great leader.”. But I really don’t miss him because I think Harper is a great leader as well. I am probably in the minority here but here me out. Chrétien was a great leader because he was a centrist leader who brought the budget under control. Marten was a great finance Minster but once he became PM he started selling out all principles and pandering to the NDP to try to stay in power.
This started a dangerous move of the liberal party to the left. Once the liberals saw the NDP ally with the CPC they thought they could move even further left in order to wipe the NDP off the map. This give Harper lots of room to move to the center. This is exactly want I want. A centrist party in power. I actually like the CPC better because they are more likely to cut taxes. The liberal social spending did not benefit me. The only kind of social spending that would of benefited me is if they made payments on the principle of a student loan tax deductible. They didn’t. How can a party that claims to care about the poor and working do little to easy the tax burden at the same time when tuition fees and living costs are rising. How can the liberal party be the party against “big business” when their policies have led to Canadians becoming more and more in debt.
Hopefully the CPC tax cuts will help ease the burden on the struggling and forgotten middle class. Another sign that the liberal area of balance centrist government is eding is the growing anti Americanism whiten the liberal party. People have begun to say that Americans and republicans are evil and have choose to define themselves but what the Americans and republicans are not. This can only lead to a harder turn to the left of the liberal party. To make matters worse if they don’t follow Americas example they will follow Europe who is already Europe under their social safety net. One day the liberals may learn that Europe is not the world and that America has been the economic power house of our time.
