Did you know?
By Gabriele Zamparini

“I, Tsilli Goldenberg, Israeli citizen

Accuse you - Ehud Olmert, Prime Minister of Israel, Amir Peretz, Minister of Defense, Dan Halutz Head of Staff Chief Commander of the Israeli Army, of committing this bestial barbaric slaughter in Lebanon.

I accuse you of committing Crimes against Humanity towards the Palestinian People. I accuse you of deserting our soldiers, when their lives could be saved by negotiations, and I accuse you of starting an unjustified war in my name.” - Tsilli Goldenberg, Masarik 11, Jerusalem 93106 Israel

Did you know that "Dana Olmert, the daughter of Israel's Prime Minister Ehud Olmert... [was one of] the demonstrators [who] chanted slogans such as 'Tzahala residents, there's a murderer in your neighborhood,' and raised signs calling on the government to 'put a stop to the murder of civilians' and stating, 'Halutz is a killer, the intifada shall prevail.' Activists also shouted, 'neighbors, ask Halutz why he's killing children and how many'"?

Why not?

Did you know that “45% of those killed in Lebanon are children and of the 500,000 people who have fl ed to safety, some 200,000 are children”?

Why not?

Did you know that Israel bombed “the nation's biggest private network, the Lebanese Broadcasting Corporation”?

Why not?

Did you know that a “big milk factory in the Bekaa region called ‘Liban Lait’ was completely burned and destroyed by direct attacks from the Israeli Air Force.”? And that a “food storehouse called ‘TransMed’ in Choueifate, in Beirut’s southern suburbs, was totally destroyed”?

Why not?

Did you know that “Lebanon's president accused Israel on Monday of using phosphorous bombs in its 13-day offensive and urged the United Nations to demand an immediate ceasefire”?

Why not?

Did you know that “the bodies of 13 Lebanese fighters were taken from Maroun al-Ras and buried in Israel to use in future negotiations over the release of Israeli prisoners”?

Why not?

Did you know that “Israeli military has said it will destroy 10 buildings in predominantly Shia south Beirut for every rocket fired at the Israeli port of Haifa, army radio said Monday”?

Why not?

Did you know that “The delivery of at least 100 GBU 28 bunker busters bombs containing depleted uranium warheads by the United States to Israel for use against targets in Lebanon will result in additional radioactive and chemical toxic contamination with consequent adverse health and environmental effects throughout the middle east.”?

Why not?

Did you know that what's going on is “subject to review by Israel's chief military censor, who has - in her own words – ‘extraordinary power’. She can silence a broadcaster, block information and put journalists in jail”?

Why not?

Did you know that “[a]ccording to the Lebanese police force, the two [Israeli] soldiers were captured in Lebanese territory”?

Why not?

Did you know how the “cross-border” myth originated?

Why not?

From the beginning of this new chapter of the old madness, many people have been following on the internet this shame. We are a peaceful army of world citizens, working for free and moved by solidarity, compassion and an inner drive for justice. Not anger!

But even among the elites of the anti-war movement and the so-called “left”, too many have never been listening to us. Let alone important journalists working for the “pro-Israeli” mainstream media who still believe that the “internet is a new thing, and it's also unreliable.”

More than sixty years ago George Orwell wrote in The Freedom of the Press, a Preface to his political novel, Animal Farm:

“But at least let us have no more nonsense about defending liberty against Fascism. If liberty means anything at all it means the right to tell people what they do not want to hear. The common people still vaguely subscribe to that doctrine and act on it… it is the liberals who fear liberty and the intellectuals who want to do dirt on the intellect…”
This Preface was censored when the book came out in 1945 and it was only published in The Times Literary Supplement on 15 September 1972. Twenty seven years after Animal Farm was first published.
Best regards

If you knew;That is Great!
If you didn't, It is time to stop and think the world is falling apart, Are you doing your part?

Good for her. Now she should try picketing the residence of Iran's President, because it is Iran's proxy army Israel is fighting.

We'll seehow long she lives. Not long enough to grow a brain, unfortunately.

While we're at it, the author of this entire piece should try writting critical letters about Iran's gov't in Iran..............

Some people just don't get it.

If I never hear of Lebanon or Hezbollah or Iraq or Afghanistan again I will be one happy camper. I don't know where those folk come from. I just hope they stay there. And we stop covering them. It's time to move on. We have a new century to explore.

Nope. I'm simply not interested. And I'm tired of their monopolizing our news. Canada has some serious problems to address and we constantly get sidetracked by places like you know what. I've tuned out. Nothing ever gets settled in the Mid-East or Asia. I'm simply not interested in their non-stop problems.

Yeah.

I get that Hezbollah is hiding behind the skirts of civilians.

What, did you expect war to be pretty?

Hezbollah is the proxy army of the Islamist state of Iran. They have no legitimate territorial beef with Israel, who withdrew from Lebanon 6 years ago. Their basic aim, stated by them, is the total destruction of the state of Israel. They have been acumulating missiles and arms for 6 years, and hve bribed their way with Iranian money (100 million bucks a year) into the hearts and minds of the Shia community of south Lebanon. unfortunately for them, the Shia have accepted Hezbollah's presence among them, their offices, their troops, their missiles, their ammo dumps, their radio stations, all legitimate targets, all surrounded by civilians.

I wish it were not so.

But it is so, and Israel was attacked. Thety have the right to defend themselves.

EVEN if Israel were NOT attacked, they know Hezbollah has been building for years, and they know Hezbollah's reason for existence is the destruction of Israel.

Pre-emptive strikes are a reasonable tactic in such a case.

Israel is in the right.

Funny how I see NOTHING about Israeli citizens killed by Hezbollah rockets. I know they are few, but they get NO mention.

Why?

War is horrible, but is this one especially bad? Or do we only see more of it and are horrified by the gore? In terms of deaths this doesn't even come close to the worst. Not that that is the point. the point is that war is horrible. I as a Canadian who has only ever know peace cannot fathom the situation there even with the images but to act as if this is somehow unprecedented is wrong, factually. Look at Rwanda look at Checnya. In Lebanon we are SEEING war more but it is war.

Don't worry. We'll get our turn. It's no coincidence that the majority of the wars we're witnessing are either ethnic or sectarian in nature. No country in the world is building a demographic arsenal of competing and irreconcilable differences as quickly as Canada is. Looks like we'll dominate world news coverage sometime within the next 25 years as we begin to implode.

Source wikipedia.

Rwanda:
The Rwandan Genocide is the massacre of an estimated 800,000 to 1,071,000 Tutsis and moderate Hutus in Rwanda, mostly carried out by two extremist Hutu militia groups, the Interahamwe and the Impuzamugambi, during a period of 100 days from April 6th through mid-July 1994.

Darfur:
The Janjaweed are a militia drawn from Darfurian and Chadian Arab tribes that became notorious for massacre, rape and forced displacement in 2003-2004. In an April 2005 report, the most comprehensive statistical analysis to date, the Coalition for International Justice documented 400,000 deaths in Darfur since the conflict began, a figure most humanitarian and human rights groups now use.

Now why do we see so much outrage now over Lebanon and so little about darfur? Simple because of the belief of many of a certain political ilk that Israel is some great evil. Anything it does is magnified x100. Besides in Darfur those are Arab Islamic militias doing the killing(AKA the good guys). And the criticism and threats of retribution from Iran, Egypt, Jordan...
(sounds of crickets chirping).
And the moral outrage about Darfur here from the coddled peaceniks who think Israel is a great evil...
(sounds of more chirping crickets).

We have a massive double standard going on.

The next time I see someone shriek about the intollerable number of deaths faced by the Lebanese in this very limited war is going to get a face full of statistics regarding wars.

Here is one to gnaw on....WWII= 40 million deaths=18,299 deaths per day!
