I put a re-built water pump into my 1985 Hyundia Pony a few days ago, and it had the impellors set too far out and it ground off a circle of metal on the timing gear cover !!!
I was sure surprised to see that when I took my repair job apart. Its allways a sad thing to re-do a repair job....but this changed me from feeling incompetant to demanding some compensation
What do you think I should get?
The timing gear cover will be weak there, it might crack, so maybe replace the timing gear cover and do the timing, they should pay a mechanic to do that for me eh?
Maybe I should ask for my time doing the job, and for having my car out of service for several days.
Maybe I should milk it for a replacement car and a million in psychological damages, but I won't do that. It would just mess my karma up, and i've allready got a messed up car.
I thought I had goofed up my third time - at first when the original pump failed, I had a used pump I put on to test out, but it was no good, and then I bought the re-built one and was sure I had done something wrong when it leaked, but all three water pumps were bad, all leaking out the bearing. The rebuilt one got hot from the grinding and caused the bearing to overheat and then leak.
ARRRGGGG, thanks for letting me spout
