Florida hiring crocodile capturers

By QMI Agency

Conservation officials are looking to hire crocodile response agents to help capture and relocate problematic reptiles in the Florida Keys.

No experience? No problem.

The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission plans to hire up to three part-time crocodile handlers and although experience is preferred, officials are willing to train.

"Since few people have extensive experience with alligators or crocodiles, that's not a prerequisite," Lindsey Hord, a biologist in charge of dealing with South Florida's nuisance alligators and crocodiles, told the Key West Keynoter.

"We can train them. If somebody with a lot of experience comes in, that would be a plus."
Duties include responding to reports of wayward American crocodiles that get too close to humans in the southern tip of the state. The job postings come amid increased crocodile sightings in the region. A croc snatched a pet dog in March.

American crocodiles can grow up to seven metres long and weigh nearly a tonne.

The job pays $25 an hour.

Maybe I'll pass. The commute would be longer than what I already
deal with, & that's about three hours too long already. That, & blood
that's not my own kind'a freaks me out a bit.
