Civil Rights Pioneer Rosa Parks Dies at 92

Rosa Lee Parks, whose refusal to give up her bus seat to a white man sparked the modern civil rights movement, died Monday. She was 92.

Mrs. Parks died at her home of natural causes, said Karen Morgan, a spokeswoman for U.S. Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich.

Mrs. Parks was 42 when she committed an act of defiance in 1955 that was to change the course of American history and earn her the title "mother of the civil rights movement."

She was a brave women.....

Salute to Ms. Parks - she did things the RIGHT way.

Nowadays its behind bandanas, helmets and hidden bricks - what a shame to her memory.

Agreed :) American Blacks owe her a debt that can never be repaid.
If you ever drove through the pre-civil rights southern United States, you know that American (and Canadian tourist) whites owe Rosa Parks an equal debt of gratitude.

Covert racism may be an ugly sight, but it isn’t a patch on overt racism.

Rosa Parks set to lie in honour

The body of civil rights icon Rosa Parks is to lie in honour in the US Capitol Rotunda - the first time that a woman has received the tribute.

The House of Representatives has approved the decision following a vote by the US Senate a day earlier.

The Senate resolution said the honour should allow US citizens "to pay their last respects to this great American."

The body of Mrs Parks, who died at her Detroit home on Tuesday aged 92, will lie in honour on Sunday and Monday.

I think that is a great honour.

Answer - drove through the deep south in the early 70's with a black guy from Cleveland. I know the horror of racism. It is slowly fading. New Orleans was a patch of sanity back then.
Isn't it strange, the twist of fate that put an irrate woman (Rosa) and a courageous minister (King) together at just the right point in history? Another time they both may have swung from trees, their passing unmarked.

It sure is. It really is.

Imagine even if she decided not to pursue the issue of who sits where on the bus, I wonder where we would be today.
