In one day, nine Chinese nationals were arrested, were charged, or pled guilty in cases tied to U.S. national security. One of them, a Chinese hacker caught in Italy, is accused of stealing critical U.S. COVID-19 research during the pandemic. We have the details on the investigation. Steve Yates, senior fellow of national security policy at the Heritage Foundation, said, "It sort of reinforces the idea that this was an operation—the [Chinese Communist Party] was not only poisoning the world, particularly the U.S., but also monitoring how we would react and the health impacts on the target." A Chinese student with a military research background is pleading guilty to visa fraud. He hid key details about his education to get around U.S. visa restrictions. Europe is facing a rise in Chinese covert operations. Ukrainian authorities arrested two Chinese men accused of trying to transfer classified missile system documents to Beijing.
