You liked it, eh?

Some guy in washington just wrote a short "spotlight on the arts" article advertising Lifehouse and Kris at Constitution Hall, and said

Kris Allen opens for alt-rock band Lifehouse, which might seem odd, since Allen was last year's American Idol, besting Adam Lambert for the title. But Allen has had nearly as much success since as he has obvious personality -- which is to say, not much. Meanwhile, Lifehouse has scored several top 40 hits over the past decade, from Hanging by a Moment to You and Me to Whatever It Takes. The band has proven to have staying power.

These types of guys all make me sick. The funny thing is I saw this concert, of course, and Kris actually has about twice as much personality onstage as Jason Wade. Not to mention, I wonder how many hits and success Lifehouse had when they had been in business for only a year and a half.

Oh. Did Kris win AI last year? Cause I thought there was someone else who did that.. but the spotlight thing is funny (peculiar not ha-ha) - it's not very clearly written for one thing. It's like the guys saying there's this band in town Lifehouse.. they've had multiple hits.. and they have staying power.. and Kris is opening for them.. and that's a bad thing? Um, no.

I had to rewatch the interview to be sure I liked it - lol - and yes. I did. Interesting fact. Ryland knows everyone.

The baseball interview was great too. I want sports people to always interview Kris. He's so relaxed when he can talk about sports and not himself. LOL

Also.. when will the voting madness end? 3:30 Monday?? Holy crap on a stick.

Is there a way to see the whole baseball interview? That was such a short snippet.

Yeah, Ryland knows everyone! I think because he's been a session musician (maybe?). I don't know. He's been around the block a few times, I guess.

I did a small amount of research on that guy who wrote that nonsense about KA and he is more or less a one man operation, i. e., he owns as well as writes that entertainment magazine, or flyer, or whatever. I agree with you. SleepinIn, even though the story was really only one short paragraph, it was not very clearly written. ...This too shall pass...

BTW, could you make anything of the thing I sent you? I thought it was interesting, though probably bogus.

Voting madness!!! What is with Radio Sophie? The voting should have ended midnight Friday. Kris won the poll. Why are they dragging it out? Are they trying to get hits on their site? (By the way, would you mind if I ask you to please explain to me the advantages of getting hits on your site? I'm not sure I've ever understood why that's important.)

This is the venue in Washington tonight. DAR Constitution Hall. Famous venue.

Venue for DC Kris concert! on Twitpic

It's really cool that Kris gets to play here tonight.

http://www.dar.org/conthall/

Looks like Kris changed it up and sang Everybody Wants To Rule The World, rather than Man in The Mirror, tonight.

Seems like right now (right now, yes, that's what I said), people are rushing down aisles to take pics of Kris. Or so people are saying on MJ's. he is apparently killin' it, again.

It's weird how this is a little more than just your standard reaction to an opening act, on this tour. Actually a lot more (depending on the venue, I suppose, but so far, pretty cool, mostly). So I've already given my theory of why this is - what are your theories, guys, if any? This didn't really happen in quite the same way this summer, did it? Is it because the openers were such huge acts, that Kris was much more like just a minor act, whereas Lifehouse is not so huge? I don't know - I don't think that has much to do with it.

I think they probably always do it. But, holy crap - if he wins how will we continue to vote? OMG.. it's madness. Hits on the site = revenue dollars for ads (if they have any) or just eyes on your website. If they're also listening to the station while there.. then numbers. It's not such a bad thing though, when you think about it, it shows Sophie that there is a demand for the song. A STRONG demand, LOL. I think they noticed that since they answered so many people on the page about when the poll ends. I mean these Sophie polls always get spammed, but if they play the song it works for me. Sophie has a warm shiny place in my heart due to the Live show they livestreamed earlier in the year. That was awesome.. and I still watch it.

I'd say it's probably a number of things. The guys had those early tours with the big acts and are way more comfortable on stage for one thing, they know they have fans. Plus I think being inside rather than outside helps. It's dark, the people can focus on the acts on the stage rather than wander off. Plus I think Lifehouse is probably closer to their target market than BNL was, or even Keith Urban. So people liking Lifehouse would probably like Kris and band, dontcha think? (not having seen any of them in person I'm relying on you to tell me your theory..? :) )

I think word of mouth really does happen. But it always takes a while, when people catch on in this old-fashioned way. Then somehow, it all just comes together. It's mysterious.

I actually think that over the summer (and before), it was just not that obvious that Kris was performing anywhere, unless he was performing in your particular city, and you got wind of it. Because his performances were scattered all over the place, sharing the stage with many different acts. In a way, it's a little like if a TV show is on at different times, on different days, instead of always being on at the same time, on the same day. People aren't seeing it because they don't know where to look - and it can't build momentum.

On the other hand, when Kris is officially part of a tour, a tour that travels - like the circus - in a simple, linear way, from one city to the next - I believe somehow people process this better. They know where to catch him, and there is momentum "Where is Kris Allen?" "He's on tour with Lifehouse." "I hear that's an awesome show." "Let's go when they come here."

So I think that's part of it, and I think all the stuff you said is true, as well.

That's a good point.

Did you check out all the comments on the Radio Sophie site? It's kind of hilarious that they're checking vote totals like it's a presidential election.. but also showing that there is a LOT of interest.. and hey Jive tweeted about it. Jive. The same Jive who doesn't seem to know that Kris has a new single. If only for the fact that Jive took 2 seconds from their extra busy twitter calendar to say "vote for Kris". This is a major success. LMAO.

Kris was #2 on the best album poll with Josh....although I don't think he understands the terminology. LOL

Congratulations to Kris Allen and his song Alright With Me the new Sophie’s Challenge Champion. Check back soon to see who he battles tonight.

OMG. Now it begins again. Did you find you had to close the page and bring it up again, after clearing cookies, for it to work? It takes forever.

Kris was #2 on the best album poll with Josh....although I don't think he understands the terminology. LOL

Do I need to ask who was #1? Let me guess. Is it the one whose music sounds like #2? Just my sorry attempt at humor. Heh.

Must I watch Josh? Okay, here goes. Taking one for the team.

[pause, for effect - and to watch Josh]

Well, that wasn't bad. He complemented Kris's album. Please don't call me a bench, Josh.

What has happened? Has Kris's fandom now joined the likes of those other two and become organized, and all? I think that's scary. How about you guys?

SleepinIn, we can see your comment on that with Josh page (on the right), LOL. Our cover is blown!

I almost wish he would stop asking those silly questions, it only fuels the fanwars, and it's not like his poll matters.

Whaat? All SleepinIn wrote was "Kris was #2 on that album poll with Josh." How did that get picked up? I don't understand.

Oh, the link.

Kris's album is good - but so is Cook's. His should have been in the top 3.

Kris is going up against Katy Perry tonight on Sophie.

By the way, SleepinIn, thanks for explaining about website hits. :)

Maybe it's because she posted the link? It's kind of creepy!

oops. lol. That happened somewhere else too. Can't remember where now though. Darn the internets.

LOL. Our cover is blown!

LOL - I'm still not a bench. I am a Fan of Kris. Okay slightly dedicated fan of Kris. But I just don't want a fan name or a fan group name and will resist it forever. :)

Ha, yes just a little scary. I'm an unorganized fan of Kris. ;) I think it was the 3 day Radio thing combined with our collectively agreed upon favourite song. It drove us all to madness. I'm not sure it will last, but it got Jive to tweet about AWM, lol

But you know a little organization is not a bad thing. Just a little mind you, the comments were getting a little cuckoo on the Radio Sophie site.

So do you have to "x" out of the whole site to vote again? If there's an easier way, I Need To Know what it is.

Now it seems as if I can only vote once, anyhow. It won't let me vote again.

On the radio thing? Clear your cookies. I only voted once though. Call me when it's 60% (bad, bad..lazy fan that I am)

Watchin' videos. :) EWTRTW!!!!! IIO!!!!!

YouTube - Kris Allen - Everyone Wants to Rule the World / Is It Over (Live) - DAR Constitution Hall 10/24/10

Considering they had to call in tech support and verify voting like it was something other than a radio poll - can't say I'm that surprised. LOL

Did you read the second part of the OK interview? It's really great.

ETA: I'd link you .. but now I'm afraid.. :)

Sorry, SleepinIn, but I'm confused - can you elaborate? I guess I missed all this. When did all that happen?

(BTW, Doesn't matter if you clear your cookies.)

Ah, okay. :) I'm not being clear... happens to me a lot. If you read the comments from the station, on yesterday's poll people were asking why they couldn't vote. The answer was that they had a 1 vote per ISP per day policy. Radio station also said they called in tech support to verify.. guess they fixed the cookie issue. lol.

What is an ISP?

Radio station also said they called in tech support to verify.. guess they fixed the cookie issue. lol.

So the "cookie issue" was people clearing their cookies and voting again? Don't tell me there's going to be an honest vote? Sometime, will you try voting more than once and see what happens?

Did you read the USA Today stuff? I never watched the interview! - just realized that. I'll have to go do that. I thought the whole thing, overall, was good. Funny about # of tickets sold- since I think Boston was sold out, or close to it. Seemed to be, anyhow. I was thinking today about the one negative comment, from the guy who said something like Kris doesn't know what his style is. I just see this as Kris not pigeonholing himself. It's so much more imaginative and interesting than the usual.

I'm listening to that video you posted, SleepinIn. Now that is much more how Kris sounds live. Amazing, isn't it?! The band, too.

Internet service provider.
Don't tell me there's going to be an honest vote?

I don't think that ever happens to tell the truth. Not unless you are in a gym with some dude who's taken the day to sit in a gym and cross off names while you go behind a cardboard divider to make an 'X'. Probably not in radio polls with Idol vs. Miley as a precursor. There's a reason that dudes there in the school gym ... people would cheat. LOL. (today was local election day here.. I went to the gym to vote.. saw the dude he crossed my name off THEN I got a ballot)

The sound from videos from that venue are amazing.

And why do artist's need to follow one style anyway?

And why do artist's need to follow one style anyway?

This reminds me of when I was a kid and I got into older music. It seemed so much less rigid. It wasn't all about putting out albums that produced hit singles. It seems to me artists were allowed to be creative.

I saw one artist tonight that is really good at using different styles, Dan Mangan (Do you like my transition from the previous posts? LOL. Yes, I'm about to go off-topic now!) . SleepinIn will be more familiar with him since he's Canadian but I've talked about him on here before.

Seriously, he freaking blew me away! Him and his awesome band. It was in a pretty intimate venue (great one, first time I'd been there, but can't wait to go back!) and the crowd was great. People were even pretty quiet during the opening acts!

I was standing like 3 feet from Dan, right in front of stage (people seemed shy to go there, I didn't really hesitate!). I could have touched his boots or his guitar... I didn't, don't worry! He has this powerful raspy voice, a contagious smile and great charisma. I expected a good show, but it was way more than just that. Absolutely fantastic.

And he's so so nice (and he's pretty adorable too!). He came out and started to sign autograph right after the show and took the time to talk with everyone. I bought a poster of his tour so he could sign it and again I was very shy but managed to tell him how much I loved the show and that I loved the new songs he played.

Anyway, let's say I came out of there with a smile on my lips and a little more spring in my step.
