I closed my eyes and listened to Mike, because I wanted to hear how he'd sound on a record, or the radio. I don't really like him sometimes, his personality - so I just want to listen to him. I was really impressed by how he sounds. He really does have a good voice. Yeah, the whole thing was old-fashioned. But, I think, it was true to who he is. I don't think he's a modern r&b singer. But he does have to be who he is, and I think he's doing that.

Jim tweeted that Against All Odds has been before 7 times (including Paige) on Idol. In 9 seasons. Ridiculous.
Andrew is not good tonight. It's not that he's not good. I feel sure he is. But this song is not the kind of thing he should be doing. I'm not even sure he should be on this show. It's a bad showcase for him. Or at least it's bad if he has no clue how to showcase himself on the show. I mean, I know there are songs he could do that would give him a moment. I don't know what they are, but he should know. If he stood still, played guitar, sang some heartfelt thing, that would be enough. Like Mitch MacDonald doing I Love This Town.
Yes, you're right. And really, compared to all these pretty bad people, Crystal is AMAZING! Maybe I'm asking more from her because I believe she can deliver. The others? Not so much. But, yeah, she has to go outside what you called her narrow framework.

Wow, Katie sings a song from THIS decade! Of course, it's a song that I hate. Considering that, I guess she did good-ish. I don't enjoy her tone though, it's not clear or something, I can't really put it into words. There's like some treble missing.
Casey. I think he's a good singer and he's radio-friendly. He chooses the dullest songs, though. And he's so dull onstage. But unlike some of the others, he sings on pitch and he actually has a singing style.

I'm with Simon. The Power of Love, are you kidding me? I don't need this. I totally zoned out on Casey. So so so uninteresting and unoriginal. He sang well, sure. But I literally got up the couch while he was singing because I was so exasperated.
These contestants should stop trying to have fun on stage, because it's obviously not working for them. They should try to be good.
